Bought me a new one over the weekend. Taurus Millennium Pro PT140. Good gun, just want a bigger frame. So, I have looked at all of these as possible options. Which one would y'all prefer, or brand?

Alot, of guns to look through, some may be the same, just posted from different sites. I am thinking of a Sig Sauer really though.

Whats wrong with .40?

I have a springfield XD40 and its great. I like the grip safety and it fits my hand well.

Why a .40?

KS

It's one of the best pistol calibers, and I am sure it's preferred by law enforcement, and other agencies. Not to big, not to small. You don't like 40's?

I love the Springfield XD series. They just look great overall, and I trust Springfields quality. Mark8Murder (Nolan) has one to I believe. It's an expensive habit! :D

Lots of people have that old mentality of bigger is better. Most will say get a .45 over a .40 but really its just as effective. Not like its a 9mm or a .22 is it?

Both .40 and .45 are great calibers.

Yup...looks like you have your answer.

XD's are great indeed.

cammerfe is an old-school 1911 guy, and seems to prefer the .45...which I cannot blame him for.

I am not clicking through the couple dozen links you provided, but what are you looking for? You say bigger frame, so are you wanting something full-sized? Metal or polymer? Is this for carry or taking to the range? If you want it primarily for target shooting, why not go with 9mm since it is cheaper and more abundant?

Springfields are good guns. That's all I have. I have a XDM 9mm 4.5 and a XDM .45 sub compact. Next on the list is a true 1911 by either Springfield or Kimber. Yes it's an expensive habit.

10 mm?

"The only reason to carry a .45 is that they don't make a .46"

The sharpness of the recoil of the .40 makes it much less pleasant to shoot, and the ammo is more expensive than either 9MM or .45. All three calibers result in firearms that are virtually the same size, so there's no advantage for carrying.

I got my .40 for a damn good price.

Im not loyal to any caliber but if i could have gotten a .45 for the price that i did id have it instead. But .40 is a good round and will take you down just as quick as a .45 will.

I also have a 12 gauge and a 7.62 rifle and will add more to my arsenal once i get a house and weapons locker. Gotta prepare for the apocalypse :shifty:.

...but they do make a .50 ]

Yes they do, but not in a 1911-size format. Once you get beyond the 1911 in physical size, carry tends to get awkward.

For years I carried a Frank Paris Combat Commander with a NM barrel in it. I had Frank take it to Mag-Na-Port and do their thing on the 3/4 of an inch of barrel hanging out of the front of the slide. About four years ago I got a Kahr PM9 to go into a MECO pocket holster to carry when I was just going to be around the garage or back yard. The ease of carry is an eye-opener.

I have 3 .40's:
Stoeger Cougar 8040
Beretta PX4 Storm compact
Springfield XD subcompact

I also have a few .45's:

Springfield Milspec SS 1911
Taurus PT145 Pro (truck gun)
I like shooting all of the above. Each has something different to offer and each has been reliable.
