I had been following the possiblities about a year ago, but got distracted and now need to start considering the choices.

what I remember was the choices were sort of like this.

OEM originals (for a sport)
OEM EUROS (for something more controlled, but less harsh)
LEDA's if your wallet is loaded.

have any of the better name brands stepped up and offered better than oem shocks yet??

what do you mean by "better"? there are 3 stiffnesses available from base (soft) to euro (lost fillings stiff). and if you want adjustable there's the leida's. what else would do you need??

Monroe makes Sensatracs but I would stay away from them. I tried them on my mustang and on my truck. I ended up going with a lesser monroe shock on my car and hydralic pro comps on my truck in about 2 weeks because the sensatracs suck.

thanks for the info people.

I knew the sensatracks suck, I put them on my pathfinder for two weeks and then returned them. I said they were either unsatifactory junk or defective and wanted my money back. In the end they gave me about 85% of the cost and I bought kyb's instead.

On my mustang, I have had monroe (standards), Konis (Yellows, reds, Yellow Doubles) and finally Bilsteins. The bilsteins that I got have been the best in every category, even though they are non-adjustable.

Firm and controled is what I want in a shock for the LS, I don't want it be too hard (think street mustang with 950lb front springs hard), but I don't want it to start wallowing when I have the whole family, a full tank of gas and a weeks worth of luggage packed in the trunk either.

I was really just wondering if KYB, gabriel or bilstein had good shocks available to replace the sport trim ones that I had or if I had to step up to the Euro ones for the control that I need in many cases.

I think KYB's would be greeat for this car. They probably don't have an application specific shock, but you might be able to get a hold of a sales reb and give them your dimensions and mounting location and types. They might have a shock that would work for you. When I was in the parts business we did this alot of times for trailors and very old vehicles (30's and older) that didn't really have an application. Of course this might be a wild goose chase, but it is worth a try. Let us know if you find anything out

I do know a guy who is the local KYB distributor, he might be able to weasel out some solution for me.

Hey, somebody want to tell me why we cannot use the Jag or tbird shocks again????

Don't be fooled by the "harshness" of the euro shocks. They're factory equipment on the MTX and after driving other V6 and V8 models, the difference is not bone jarring by any means. They are slower to compress, but if you're ever planning on lowering your car, that's a good thing.
