So far, it's been a delightful week! Get a load of today's saga!
Just a little background... A friend of mine and corporate officer at work scrambled his Toyota engine. He showed an interest in owning a Mark VII. I loaned Kat and my's 87 (Blue) to him to drive until he could find a car. (I do NOT loan cars but he is a finatic about the care of a car, no sweat there.)
We have been searching for a Mark for him and we came across a Mark VII, 1988 model. The copy read:
"1988 LINCOLN MARK VII 58M, runs grt, nds shocks, brakes, and repair on drivers side. $550.00"
I passed that info to my friend who concurrently found it, and yesterday (3/7/07) he called the number. There was a female voice, rich with age, (read: elderly) on an answering machine. My friend left a message. The lady returned the call shortly thereafter.
When he made inquiry as to the car, she told him that she had donated it to a charitable organization, earlier that very day! He enquired as to the organization and she told him.
He asked about the condition of the car and she told him the following:
It belonged to a female friend of hers who was, as well, a "mature woman". Her friend had purchased it new, and drove little. Upon the passing of her friend, the car was given to the lady on the phone. She went on to say that several little items had detached themselves from the car and she kept them, and provided them to the charity as well as placing the owners manual, repair documentation, and all original paperwork on the seats so they would be available to the charity. She said that the car was scraped on the side but other than "shocks" (read:air suspension) and hard brakes, the car was in very nice condition, and well maintained. She also provided the license plate number to my friend.
My friend called the charity in an attempt to locate and purchase the car. The charity told him that they did not have the car as it was picked up by a "contractor" which was used to handle their automotive contributions. That contractor was an auto dismantler. Bear in mind that, that was yesterday!
I called the dismantler at noon today and made inquiry about the car. I was told that it had been dismantled already! I could purchase the residue by contacting the yard manager!
I became nausiated! Thats not a joke.
In less than 24 hours, an all original BB with less than 60,000 miles was collected from an elderly lady who was convinced that the car would be sold, and put into service. What she recieved was a scam! The charity NEVER EVEN TOOK POSESSION OF THE CAR! They simply called their wrecking yard and had it picked up!
Following is direct copy from their website!
"In order to raise money for charity from your generous auto donation, the charity cars need to be sold. We sell most of our vehicles at our retail locations. Other vehicle donations programs send their car donations directly to an auction. On average, an automobile sold at auction will bring in a lower dollar amount whereas a similar car sold at a retail location will bring in a higher dollar amount."
That is a "cut and paste" from their website.
I want to be descrete about the scam artists who did this so I wont mention who it was.

Damn, I hit the wrong key! I thought that was "delete". I certanly wouldn't want anyone to tell anyone else what dirtbags they are and how deceptive these opportunists are.
Thanks to these jerks, another low mialage BB hit the crusher so some bogus group could get scrap metal money for it!
How nice!
