What does LS stand for?

Luxury Sedan. However, there is a debate on what LSE stands for. I know Lincoln used LSC which was Luxury Sport Coupe but I always wanted to know what the hell happened to LSD?

I guess the Lincoln engineers used the LSD!

OMG a Thunderbird with a Mustang engine, what a GREAT idea! Haha thanks for the good laugh.

I believe the Mark VIII had the engine before the Cobra.

'96-'98 Mustangs had the DOHC 4.6L with 305 HP. The Lincoln version never made more than 290 HP, so I guess you're right, the Mark VIII didn't have a Mustang engine, but an inferior one.

if you dont like the car, why post in the cars section. someone sounds jealous!

The Mark VIII engine was the basis for the Cobra engine I was just pointing it out. I love Mark's and LS's myself :Beer

Actually, the Cobra got the Mark VIII's DOHC 4.6L V8. I remember a salesdork telling me, while I was test driving a (then-new) '95 Mustang, how they'd never put that engine in the Mustang.

The Mark VIII was a sweet ride; at 110mph, it was riding like my SHO did at 80mph. That 110mph test drive was completely unintentional; I just floored it on the entrance ramp to the interstate, then let off when I thought I was around 80mph. A similarly lead-footed friend (a Trans-Am enthusiast who once drove from the Big Easy to Norman in 10 hours (including "30 minutes of driving up and down Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas hollering at the hookers") before they built the Interstate that provides easy access to New Orleans from Dallas--average speed of ~106mph--but I digress) was with me, and he also thought it was about 80mph. I tried to trade for that one in '95, but we were just too far apart in price to make it work.

That being said, it's definitely not an LS. It just wishes that it were. ;)

So if I have the sports package, I have an LSE? I have seen many posts where people say: "I have a 2002 LSE..." just curious.

nope - the LSE was an appearance package - it's the CDC kit that Ford installed on them - Ken sell them at LSKoncepts.com

So there were 4 versions - base, sport, premium and LSE.
