Does Anyone Have Any Pictures Of This Darn Air Silencer. Also By Removing It Will The Check Engine Light Come On? Any Potential Problems With Taking This Out. Just What Is This Thing Suppose To Do Anyway? Sounds Like It Restricts Airflow.

I Have Also Heard That You Have To Remove The Stock Airbox, Wheel, And Fender Liner To Get This Bugger Out? Any Help Would Really Make It Easier For This Cherry To Make His Mark Even Faster To Put More Distance On Those Crotch Rocket Lawnmower Sounding Hondas These Kids Race Around. I Like To Ask Them If They Can Cut Grass With There Car. Thanks For The Help, Marks Rule !!!

The CEL should not come on if you remove the silencer.

the job of the air silencer is to remove a lot of the reconance the air turbolence makes. Basically, it does what it's called. When you remove it, you may or may not notice the motor sounding a bit healthier under throattle.

As far as HP gains... Don't expect miracles. I'm sure it's good for one or two ponies. Maybe less, Maybe more.

What generation mark do you have? And if you can wait till 11th of June, I can meet you and help you remove it, as I'm goinf to LV for that weekend.

my check engine light came on when I removed it and installed a K&N filter, to stop this I disconnected the battery for awhile and let the computer reset it's self. then it was okay.

its good for at LEAST 100 hp at the wheels.

You are correct with the parts that you have to take off to get it out. It's not difficult to remove. You are not going to notice any HP gains. But it will sound better. Start from the air box and go down. All of that plastic box below the fender and the horn looking thing is the silencer.

not only will it sound better, but its a fun first mod.

Did my 98 a couple weeks ago when doing the fuel filter. Not a big deal except two of the rubber mounts had sheered off - had to dremel them off- enjoyed the nice smell of cooking rubber! only took half of an hour. Drilled out the front of the air box to allow for more air, added a K& N.

No CEL, but at about 2000 RPMs I did notice a distinctively louder growl.

It's also good to remove if you're going to install a conical filter. Otherwise you won't be pulling much (if any) cool air into the engine because the silencer will be blocking up the passageway to the outside of the engine bay.

If you really want to hear the motor growl, make sure and remove the other silencers from the top of the motor, too. I yanked the big one and sawed off the smaller, triangular-looking one, then capped the round hole and epoxied the smaller holes.

You'd be surprised how much intake noise you'll hear at full throttle after that!

I did mine last Thur. I was suprised at how big the silencer is. Inside the fender well the thing is shaped like a big black J and about 14 inched tall. I had fits getting the bottom of the air box off, the lower screw would not come out.
After I got the lower screw out it was no problem. I drilled four 2 inch holes in the front panel of the air box and wire tied the plug I had to remove from the silencer. The hardest part was lining up the wheel well liner for the screws. Have fun and think about size and placement of the extra holes. I did mine like an upside down T, 3 across and one above.
