Select Shift Transmission.
The LS uses a electronicly shifted transmission, all have it, but only the Sport models can factory with the SST shifter - which allows you to up/down shift on demand.
If you have this option - your shifter will have a +/- on the right side of the shifter cover plate

What he said. Some conditions are that you can't start off in first, in order to drop it into first, you need to give it 60% throttle at a lower speed in 2nd gear. It's a good option for the highway, when passing cars etc. Some other manufacturers had the vehicles computer set at it will automatically shift, in manual mode, past redline or before, which defeats the purpose. With SST you can run it a little past redline, but it's not recommended at all.
