what faster Mercury MARAUDER or MARK VIII

the mark is alil faster. the marauder is just too heavy! i think it weights like around 4100lbs??

i think the only way the marauder would beat the mark, (not in a quarter mile run) if they both were at a 35-40 mph roll then lauching at the same time. because of the marauders 302HP and 318 ftlbs of torque it might pull away, but by not much though maybe 1 car length!

Its got alittle more horsepower and torque, I think its the same motor as the Mach 1, which had different cams that brought on the power earlier in the RPMs. Also 3:55 gears. More weight though. Most reports say about the same numbers as the Mark. Alittle better 0-60 maybe alittle slower 1/4. Did read a article in 5.0 or MM&FF were it did 14.7s all day. Thats better than most Marks, probably a close race.

Once again, the Maurader and Mach 1 have the same exact cams as the Mark VIII. The Maurader makes more horsepower because of the head and intake manifold design. Mostly because of the 03 heads.

I've seen a few stock Marauders at Englishtown runnin' 15.1 all day. Definitely be a close race between the two

I'm not going to start digging thru old mags, but I remember when the Mach came out and they excused the drop in power compared to the N/A Cobras, because of something to bring the power on earlier, I thought it was the cam timing or something. Maybe it was the head intake combo as I know that was different too.

Yes, the Mach 1 cams are made for low end- mid range torque, same as the Mark VIII. If you put 96-01 Cobra cams in the Mach 1 you will pick up maybe 10hp on the top end.

I raced a marauder with my old 93 and we were practically even till the end when his bumper was at my front fender, so I won It was like 2-2/12 years ago but I believe we went up to about 80-90 and then slowed down. I had a chip, maf and cat back exhaust and my best time in the 1/4 was a 14.8 in that car.

So I was somewhat right. The article I read was comparing the Mach to the N/A Cobra, I didn't know that the cams between the Mach and Mark were the same. It makes sense though, The Cobra had SVT grinds, the Mark, Mach, and Marauders were Ford products. Got it.

From a dead stop and 0-60... I think the marauder would probably just barely take the Mark. From a 70 mph or so roll? Marauder would be tasting dust.

IMHO, of course.
