What is the best oil to use?

What is the best oil to use in my STS?It's almost time for my 95' STS's oil to be changed, I just recently flipped 76,000 miles, I usually use pennzoil 10w30, but i was thinking about switching to the pennziol high milage formula, Should I?, or does anyone have any other suggestions......, oh,and by the way Cadillac's RULE [/COLOR] :C
 
if I drove a caddy with an oil buring Northstar I would continue to use pennzoil
 
it really doesnt matter what type of oil you use....only if its compared to reg. or syth. regular oil has less vicosity than synthetic... because it has natural molecular compounds...etc.

anyways... i usually use the wallymart brand of super tech 10-30 and then add an oil additive to make it thicker every 3000 miles. I ususally use the Fram middle grade Oil filter...(not the orange one, but the next higher grade...its grey) even though i go to Nappa all the time and use there filters occasionally. I like fram because they have that grip on them which makes puttin the bitch on that much easier.

So, i guess it really is preferance. Some peeps will tell you to swear by synth or name brand oil, me I dont care, because studies show that all regular oil is the same and breaks down at about the same heat and life. Synthetic is man made and has less natural impurities to give "better oil consumption, better wear, lubrication, yada yada".

but the cost of synth on a 3000 mile trip is what gets me...i drive to school 65 miles there and back so, i go cheaper, because i change it so much.

preference i guess.

Huh? Why would recommend running a thicker oil in the winter and a thinner oil in the summer?



To answer the original question run 5W-30, and keep using what you're using. Pennzoil makes a good product, 76,000 is not anywhere near high mileage by todays standards, you do not need to use their high mileage oil. Just make sure you change it every 3,000 miles.

I have a 94-STS summer temps average 215-220. is 5W30 or 10W30 too thin in the summer. These engines get hot, when you pull out the dip stick the oil would run off like water. So where is the protection. I have been building engines and racing them fo over 20-years. This is my first Caddy and of course you guys know more than me about the N* motor. In the summer i'm running 20W50 with a quart of Lucas oil stabilzer been doing this for 2-years. Winter i use 10W40. Even with the 20W50 the oil drip off the dipstick at 215-degrees. So wouldn't the thicker oil be better in the heat? Like i said i'm asking for advice, this is my first N* and you guys know better

definately use 10-30 in the summer.... put an additive once every oil change also... they are inexpensive and really add protection and noisey engine quieting.
you should switch your oil... thinner oil in the winter (ITS COLDER AND EASIER ON YOUR ENGINE, THE OIL IS LIKE MOLASIS) and thicker in the summer (IT IS WARMER WEATHER, THUS YOUR OIL VICOSITY IS THINNER BECAUSE OF THE ADDED ENGINE HEAT)
I like the STP oil treatment...costs about 2-3 bucks...
so once an oil change it really doesnt add that much more...but i also do my own oil changes. If you do start using oil treatments, and notice oil consumption, do not add more additive... add more oil, only add the additive ONCE>

anyway, i tried the STP oil treatment and gasket sealer (the grey bottle) and I havent needed any oil added yet...and ive driven 1200 miles already. STP is the best bang for your buck, ive tried them all.

Hmmmm, this sounds interesting. I've been running 10w30 Mobil 1, but I didn't know you guys were running the addatives too. I'll try some the grey STP - my STS is going on a trip without me, I'll have to see what it does.

Last winter I ran the 10w30, and it gets cold in Kansas, so maybe I'll switch down to 5w30.

well i dont have a caddilace i have a 95 contientental with the oil saving Intech:)
sorry guys had to say that feel bad about you oil burning Caddys
but iv yoused Mobile 1 5 30 sunthetic
in mind for the last 30,000 miles every 3,000 miles i get the oil change
and it runs great
i say mobile one full syntheic with what ever kinda oil filter is called for stock i think that best

Had a Lincoln Mark VIII, dumped it when all the electrical started glitching. Have a 1998 STS now, and must say that the Northstar rocks! Looking at something new, but this one is too hard to part with...
