Every year about this time Lexus runs their "when you give some one a Lexus for Christmas" ads. Which leads me to wonder the following questions: Who gets a Lexus for Christmas, does Lexus realize that we are in a recession, and who's daughter do I have to date to get one of these cars for Christmas

Lots of Americans aren't really affected by the recession; that's just the way large numbers work, and Lexus isn't alone--Lincoln has actually been doing well, profit-wise, this year, and they've had ads all over the place. Hell, you're really lucky if you can find a dealer who will sell you a 2010 Camaro at MSRP, yet they're so backordered that if you ordered one today, you might get it in four to six months.

Look at it this way: there are 300,000,000 people in the US. If only 1% of Americans can afford to buy a new luxury car, that's still 3 MILLION people, and Lexus only needs to reach about 10% of them.

the new Camaros are crap. I had one build on their site fully loaded for only 36k then I check out the dealerships and the closest ones to the one I had built they were selling for 50-60k lol

That it does.

I used to be quite the GM fan. Now with each passing day I'm liking them less and less...

And it would seem they can be credited with the demise of Saab as well. Something made Koeneiggsegg walk away from the deal even though they had the funds for the sale. Koeniggsegg didn't like the deal and it's likely something attributable to GM, again. They never made anything that interested me and still don't.

I personally don't like them, but I can't quite go along with you on that. My boss has a brand new Camaro 2SS, and it's really a very nice car, particularly for a Chebbie.

It's supply and demand--they're in high demand and GM can't build enough of them to supply it. Ford had the same problem with the new Mustang GT in 2005 and the T-Bird in '02; if you could find one on a dealer's lot, you would be doing good to get it at MSRP.

BTW, my boss got his at MSRP, which has proven to be a pretty good deal at this stage in the game; he had GM's equivalent of Ford's X-Plan, and no dealers would touch it.

I have sold many cars that were x-mas presants over the years. Several were Audis but most were cheaper Fords or Mitsubishi's.

The dealer across the street from my office has a couple Camaros in stock. I drove a new black on black SS and loved the power and the way it felt but damn did the interior suck. Pillars were way way too thick and the window was too high. If you wanted to rest your arm on the door then your elbow was as high as your ear. Plus I am 5'11" and my head was almost touching the roof. They did say I could have any of the three on the lot for MSRP, even the one they put a custom grill on.
