Mine is a 427 Shelby Cobra. When I saw them in pics as a kid my Knees would weaken. My dad also had a series od Birds from 77-78! He had the one that was a Heritage edition with a FACTORY CB!! I used to run the battery DEAD!!
Unreal! Funny you mention that. At first, when my Pops got the car, I would "flirt" with the (same) girl next door by flashing the headlights off-and-on(causing the headlight doors to "wink" at her) she returned the flirtation by doing the same in her daddy's New Yorker of about the same vintage.(we had no driveways so they'd park front-to-front) We'd keep blowing out the vacuum hoses by doing this while the cars were not running. (not to mention what it did to the battery!) It did start a tradition though, to "punish" me, my Father made me watch him replace the hose,to see how much work there is in fixing a car, and since then, we always "work" on our cars togheter, even now.
I also remember that being the only car (as a passenger) that I could fall asleep in on those rides back to Travis AFB from seeing family in the southern parts of California. I was 10 when we had to get rid of *ahem* "Mrs Ruby Ford" and yes, I did cry like there was no tomorrow that day.
* a note of irony here* Pops traded the T-Bird in on a '83 Cutlass Supreme,I LOATHED that P.O.S!, Fast forward 5 years: My first car was a '78 C/S, My 2nd car a '79 Cutty. Cruiser, My 3rd car, an'83 Hurst/Olds (Yup, another Cutlass) <Cuttys are the most of any model of car I've had>
Fast forward another 9 years to May 2002, I buy a '79 C/S, nearly identical to my 1st C/S (sans vinyl roof) which is in the process of restoration currently in my driveway.*****Talk about sick.***** BTW, I still would rather have a 77-79 T-Bird *(even after the tragedy I've had with a '94 model.).
