Depends on application.
Do you mean in a Mark VIII or something else?

c4 is a 3 speed automatic I have one in my 66 mustang its a nice little tranny but not something you would want in a mark. I dont think they make a bellhousing for the 4.6 though. I know you can get a 5 speed manual from a newer mustang gt that will go in the marks.

Thats a missplaced ad.

The VIII was never offered with a manual, of any type.

Must be an Autozone Add.... They have no clue what tranny is in the Mark VIII. I had a long arguement with them (Corporate Autozone) last summer. I tried and tried to explain to them they have the wrong tranny listed.

They sent me to one of their techs who told me they don't know their heads from there @$$, and that they do have the wrong tranny listed. Cost me money and time.

And the idiots behind the desk a the local stores... are as dumb as dumb can be.

The only thing they know is which stick makes a ricer look like more rice!!

Autozone serves no more purpose to me, other than buying cleaning products for my car. that is all.

yes yes rub it in rub it in....i searched on the net because my transmission keeps down shifting on me every so often more times then others but i was curious and looked on there. i dont know whats wrong with it, it doesnt jurk it just down shift then calmingly shift back up like it should, and ideas, only thing i can think of i modul? i just changed trans filter and fluid. not including torque converter, dunno where the drain plug is for it?:shifty:

Some don't have a drain plug.... Could be your TC.... Usually a tranny flush will tell you if you have bigger issues. Have you done the 1 2 accumulator replacement?

We are not picking on you about Autozone just making sure you don't purchase important parts from them... Like I said....They don't know what tranny is in a Mark VIII.... (That's where I learned that they are a dumb @ss place to purchase auto parts... Oil, cleaning supplies, or stickers for your ricer.

Good Luck...

1 2 accumulator replacement? i noticed the tranny fluid was getting dark so i dropped the pan, cleaned the pan out stuck it back up there bolted it filled it up and it ran find for acouple days. now it does it again, like i said not very often but it does it. and it only does it when im cruising, its done it once out of 1,000 times when i was getting up from a stop sign.

we dont have a pepboys.........we have orielly, advanced auto, carquest and autozone oh and cant forget napa. :|

Does the transmission computer pull throttle position from the TPS? Maybe your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is faulty. The reason I say this is the trans will downshift at a certain amount of throttle application.

Or, it could simply be the dreaded MLP/TR sensor problem occurring.

Anybody know if the MLP/TR can cause intermittant downshifting?

Oh, also, it could be the brake switch. The torque converter clutch will disengage anytime the computer thinks the brake pedal is pressed. It sometimes feels like a 4-3 downshift if you're going at a steady speed. To test it, just go cruising again and get up to about 40mph so the TC clutch will engage. Then, with your foot on the gas keeping the car steady, gently depress the brake with the other foot and watch the tachometer. It should rev a little higher as the clutch disengages. See if that's the same problem you're experiencing during a normal drive.

yes anywhere between 35-45 it will do it cruising. went on a trip this weekend for acouple days, i took the interstate there and never had a problem. even when i got into town where we were staying it never down shifted on me. dunno what the deal is. its also done it before at 70 or so, it did it on the way to take a friend home from work, on the highway then i stopped and put it in park to let him out i backed out got back on the highway and never did it again.

i am not defending auto zone. but thats the only place i go in our town. They may suck but its better then dealing with he a$$-clowns at oreilys

Well if you havent done atleast the 1-2 accumlator upgrade id do that and while your at it id recommend the J-Mod. My car is J-Modded and I just drove a mark today without it, makes a world of difference.
