Other than the suspension, is it any difference performance wise? The horsepower remains the same does it not? I am wondering because it costs more to insure, and I am wondering why. Does the "Sport" name cause the rates to go up?

It's funny, I currently have a 2000 Volvo S80 T6, which costs me $2200 to insure. A 2004 LS would cost $1800. A 2004 Sport would cost $1975.

The Sport would include additional options that the Premium model would. I would imagine things like moon roof, different wheels and other trim options. There are no differences in engine modifications between the Sport or Premium. However, there may be a difference in a standard auto or SST.

I'm thinking the SST could be the deciding difference but that's a SWAG. Also, it could just be the way they are classified in the insurance database.

just another reason for the insurance companies to "bend us over" and say may i have another.

As per my window sticker the Sport Package adds SST, AdvanceTrack, Sport tuned suspension, Alpine 6 disc Audiophile sound system, 17" 5 spoke Supersilver Aluminum rims, and leather trim wheel and shifter. As well as everything the premium package came with Heated Seats, Moon Roof, Electronic Message Center, and in cabin air filter. The Sport package also deletes the chrome on the bumpers and adjustable headrests (why) I also heard that the sport adds with the trany cooler but I don't know if that's true there might be a few other things but that's all that I know of do a search its been covered about a hundred time by quick ls and others.

it does not matter whether it is a sport or not for horsepower. for example my 01 V8 Sport has 252 horsepower and a 01 V8 Premium has 252 horsepower. the V6 whether it is sport or non sport has only 215 horsepower i beliver or somewhere around there.
the reason why the sport does not have chrome bumpers, for example, is because they are trying to give it that more sporty look with less chrome as compared to the more premium version. in fact the chrome bumpers look cheap to me and looks better without. also the sport does not have a woodgrain shift knob and steering wheel. I wish mine did but hence the sport package, not the luxury package. Overall the sport has many more goodies than the non-sport and should maybe have a little effect on insurance, but the bigger factor is the V8 versus V6 engine on insurance.

I would guess that part of it is the additional cost of the Sport Package. You are insuring a car with a higher replacement value, thus a higher cost.

Just a guess, but I would think it makes sense.
