I have a set of 18" rims with a universal adaptor built in to them. They are off a honda accord and i think the lug patterns are 115 and 112. Of course they don't fit a lincoln. So i found some adaptors but im unsure of this idea. One are they going to make my wheels stick out too far and two, is it safe? Has anybody used these? Also can anybody tell me how to convert a conventional lug pattern like a 112 to say a 5.25. I found this website http://www.coolcars.org/wheels/adapters/product.htm and it only gives me measurements like 5x135 so im not sure what the lincoln is. Please help, i need to get these godd awful OEM rims off my car.

OEM 17x7.5, 5x108 (107.95mm / 4.31in), 60mm offset
Stud / nuts (metric) M12x1.5-19mm

I was pondering this idea for a while too, from my research, you can add up to 1.5" or so to your total offset without them sticking out. Meaning:

[(Wheel width/2)-offset]-wheel width = the distance between your wheel mounting surface and the outer rim of the wheel. On my LS, my stock wheels have about 2.25" of clearance before they would stick out past the upper fender in the front.

Now, take your new wheel, do the same figure as above. The figure you come up with must be less than your stock wheel + (the measurement between the top of your rim and the plane where it would stick out past the fender.

Most of those adapters are 1-1.5" thick, so take that into account too when you are figuring this out.

I hope this helps.
