Hey pros, (Only speaking to people who have something close to these specs):

REAR ONLY w/

9" wide

+36 offset

275mm tire

lowered about two inches.

Will it fit -WITHOUT RUBBING- after the lip is trimmed/folded up?

Thanks!

... with a fender roll it will be fine but keep in mind some tires are wider than other with the same spec'ed width.

KDW are pretty wide when compared to other brands, so it's your call. But it should be ok.
You have a 10" rim (remember 9" rim is actually 10" from lip to lip) with about 3/4" overhang on each side.
It will be close, but with mandatory fender roll you should be fine.

I have 9.5" wide 18s with KDW 265/40s on them. With the fender rolled under in back they only catch the top edge of the bumper cover in extreme bumps. That could even be trimmed to clear but seldom happens. On a 9.5" rim the 265 may size up similar to the 275 on 9".

Ha. Welllllll.

The top of my tires are flush with the top of the quarter. (looking straight across the top of my tires you can't see inside my wheel well) So I might have to trim the bumper cover a bit..

What's your offset on that 9.5, do you know offhand? Lol don't go through trouble but inform me if you do know. I'm biting my nails. Everything's ordered but I would like to know before I mount the tires, cause then they're "used" ya know. I have no problem with 1/16" clearance, I actually prefer to fill my wheel well as much as possible but if someone absolutely knows this won't work I would like to be told! :)

Thanks guys! (especially for that pic!)

36mm

so my 9.5 sticks out 1/4" more than a 9 with the same offset, mine may be out futher closer to the rim.

Mmmm.

It's gonna be close but that makes me comfortable at least. I was hoping you'd say 36 from the looks of that pic.

Thanks again man.

How do you roll the fender without damaging any thing?

I have 9.5" rims with 245/45 17's and no problem with any rubbing at all. If I remember correctly it had a +36 mill (6.5") backspacing. Only problem I had is the spindles rub on the inside of the front rims

I had the same problem with mine, becuase the previous ownerhad clamp on wheel weights on the inside rim lip. When I upgraded to 275's I went with stick on weights in the inner rim.

ooh that'd suck.

I'm going with 255's up front, also on a 9" wheel so I'll be good. I wanted the staggered tire look :)

I'm not going to say how I plan on doing it ;) But, I'll get it done without damaging anything. If that was a possibility I would just get out the die grinder and cut it off only what needs to be cut for clearance and then cover the cut with some truck bed liner/rustoleum/chassis paint. I shouldn't have to cut off the whole lip.. actually nobody should even notice after it's cut and the tire's on. I still want to use my "U" shaped trim wherever I can to keep rock chips minimized.

Mine did not rub on the lip of the rim. The spindle actually rubs on the inside curve of the rim  I have stick on wheel weights because I knew that was going to be a clearance problem and I have actually ground the spindle were the rim was grinding. Even ground it will still rub when I am backing up and turning the wheel to get out of a tight parking spot

..I was meaning the quarter panel lip in the rear. ;)

Maybe that statement's not relevant but I think you just repeated yourself?

*confused*

I'm sure not to have any front issues, I'm only concerned about the rear, with a 275mm (or 11.5") wide tire.

Sorry about the misunderstanding.
Sorry about the misunderstanding but I never repeat myself :shifty:

I never thought about the rear having issues with my setup. I wanted to put 18" rims on the rear to give it a bit of Big n' Little effect with the 17's on the front. As far as width was concerned I kinda figured you can't really see it all that much on the Mark and I wanted handling more than anything. ;)

I did have 17" by 8.5" rims on a CRX and had to roll the rear lips. We used a base ball bat against the tire to roll the lip up in multiple passes. We also used a whizzer wheel to cut a few slits in the lip because it would not stretch easily. Then used body shop seam sealer to cover up any exposed metal and holes caused in the slitting.

I hope your not talking about trimming the INNER fender lip with a die grinder..... That is a pinch weld, that holds the wheel house together. beat it up and over, to get it out of the way, DON'T grind it.

I ground straight slits in the harder corners where the steel wont stretch enough. Basically it cause when we folded it up flat the steel would have to stretch to much when folding in, so it was a straight slit from the inside to about a 1/16 of the outer. Then rolled it all up flat and hit the slits with seam sealer to seal them from the elements.

Lol well now that's an excellent point! I wasn't thinking of grinding the whole thing off but I'd probably end up cutting past the spot welds! (I think I would have inspected it before cutting it after taking the "U" trim off) But just in case thank you!! :)

I think I'll probably end up trying that method! I know it's going to be a tight fit.. I'm going to need to fold it more than just a little ;) Thank YOU!

And yeah some people don't notice the tire width, but I like the beefy look of a wide rear wheel/tire on these cars. Geno's car (in the "King mark the VIIIth" mag article) is an awesome example of this. :)
