Hi all, another question. My new to me Mk VIII didnt come with the wheel lock key. Is this a Lincoln only part? Or can I pick it up at a Napa type store?? Or does anyone have one they want to part with?:D

Thanks

Big Lou

Goodluck finding the lock. I thought I lost it and it was in my pocket. Try to find a very tiny manilla enevelope, and that has all the things you need to order a new key, it should be under the space saving spare in the trunk. Look around, see what you can find. Mine was under the trunk carpet lining.

Good Luck!

most tire shops can remove it or you could just hammer a socket over it (if its stock use a 22mm impact socket ) and use a breaker bar and it will come off just be careful not too smack the rim w/ the hammer

Thanks guys. I will go tear out my truck carpet and look for that enevelope, and if it isnt there... well then the old school way it is.

update. No little envelope. I tore out all of the trunk carpet, nope nada none. So I guess I will be calling a few tire shops on Monday to see what they can do for me.

Hey! Did ya check between the backseat and floor? that gap dips down a good four inches, that's where I FINALLY found mine.

I got worried also. I had the silver ten spokes with a MALE (closed ended, like an acorn) locking lug.

That means nobody's taking it off without a key.

I had two supercoupes and one prior mark viii, all without keys. The mark viii had snowflakes with center caps like the supercoupe wheels, so I had room, and all the locking lugs were female, so I could simply use a wedge (punch, chisel) and 5 lb. hammer to cut in and slowly get them to turn off.

But on the chrome/silver ten spoke wheels, we don't have center caps that cover the lugs. No place or room for that chisel. Plus they were male and either chrome or stainless instead of soft unchromed steel which means no place to mount the chisel tip even if we did have large center caps. And chances of a socket that will fit over the locking lug and still fit in the lug hole, slim. I know I couldn't find one, using snap on and mac tools.

I think ford has about 105 keys, and my three most local dealerships at the time didn't have a master set, or the key that I needed. And since my car was more than 8 or so years old, they didn't have my VIN number in their database anymore to tell them which key I would need. I wasn't going to order all 105 at $20 some bucks/pc. They wouldn't have sold me a whole set anyways.

Anyways, make sure it's not in the car behind the seat, crawl in and run your hand through there carefully, I checked three times there before my fingers finally 'felt' it, and I have skinny fingers. It was quite the relief after my research. I was on my way to lighting the torch.

Thanks for the tip, I will go look there, or have one of the kids it!!

Did you try the dealership yet? Try both Ford and LM, that's where I got mine taken off.

It wasnt behind the seat or under it either.

Russo, I got the car after the Parts Dept closed on Saturday, so I havent had the chance yet. But it needs rear tires pretty bad and front brakes too. So I'm just trying to get things lined out incase they cant or wont do it. You never know with the dealerships around here.

This is not as simple as my VII, it uses a pretty standard mustang/fox lug key. When you get that off there buy a set of locking lugs and wrench for them at the tire store.

Damned ford, yet again!

here's as strange thought.

I have a 93 and a 95 Mark VIII. The key from my 93 fit my lock on my 95. When Debi sent me the 10 spoke rims she also sent me the locking lugs and key. Guess what. That key fit all three sets of locks too.

Do you know anyone with a Mark VIII? Maybe you'd get lucky...

Actually, here is a better kit. Not only can you take out the lockin lugs, but if you EVERY have a bolt OR a nut that is rounded off, this kit will help there. I have this exact kit, and it has come in handy on MORE than one occassion......even removing the locking lug.

Hope this helps. :shifty:

Thanks for the help all. I am heading to the LM dealer after work today. If they cant help me then I will be buying one of those kits.

And no, I dont know anyone else with a Mk VIII. :(
