Does anyone know how to refinished the 16" OEM wheels on the Lincoln LS? They are the machined wheels not the chrome. Thanks to my supposedly better half ( bright idea to clean my car as a early B-day present). totally f32ked up my wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

could you tell us about the damage in detail? If they were cleaned with brillo, scotch-brite pad,or something of that nature they can be saved.

If that is the case, and assuming you own a drill or electric die grinder with a
1/4'' shank,go to your local auto parts store and buy a MOTHER'S brand "wheel ball". It is a buffing pad shaped like a ball and expands according to speed of rotation. First try this with fine cut polishing compound from 3M or Megiuar's (I prefer these two brands-great products). If this works you can wipe them down with a clean towel and then apply one (or two if you're a nut like I am) coat(s) of a good quality wax.

If this doesn't work, Keystone refinishes factory wheels to OEM specs and they also do chrome plating.

Good luck with your wheels.

whats the problems? my last non chrome rims i had... i jus banged them into place with a rubber hammer.. sanded it down.. and painted them a specific color u know

A friend of mine refinished his chebby aluminum wheels. Most custom wheels now come with a clear coat and some even have paint.

My friend removed all the clearcoat and paint from his wheels and then polished them with his air tools. Then he sprayed on new clear coat and the grey paint used for accents. It wasn't a difficult job but took some time.

Turned out very nice, but might have been more efficient to just send them out for refinishing. Alternatively new wheels might be cost effective too.

One of the members on this list might have a discount Ford parts supply. I know the chebby list I used to be on had a dealer rep who sold us parts at incredible prices. The cost of a new wheel, plus cap plus lugs for my Impala SS was something like $125 while from the dealer it would be over $250 and refinishing was something like $100+ So the new wheel from our discount part guy was the ticket. BTW, the way these dealer reps are able to sell parts cheaply is that there are often "kits" of parts that actually cost less than the parts by themselves.

Looks like some of this type dealer are advertising on the side bars to this webpage. Worth a look.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
