when car is off i hear knocking noise...

hi guys im new to this site and its my first thread even though i have replied to some other threads here, i just purchased a 04 LS v8 blk/blk THX /NAVI ( BRAND NEW ) it was a left over dont know how the hell no one picked up this one and the dealer gave it to me for 25k with only 5 miles on it -- well now i have 5000 miles and i did a oil change when it had 4000 miles i always use 93 octane but i noticed 2 things and i was hopping you guys can help me out:
1. i smell a burning oil smell that only happens when i come to a complete stop and the AC/ heater is on.
2. when i turn off my LS and i start walking away i hear like a KNOCKING or popping sound comming out of the car.

have you guys ever come across this issues and did you guys ever resolve them and how.
P.S i just was victim to the MYSTERIUS BEEP but i read on here that its no biggy but my friend was recording on his DV cam when it happened so whe are going to digitize the image and put it on my pc and slow it down to maybe 1/18 of a second to see if I can see if anything was on the message center console so we can finally know what the hell this is.. wish me luck on that one .. :headbang:

If the noise is a pinging, metallic sound, it is probably the exhaust system cooling down. That would be normal. The oil smell could just be some spilled oil when you changed it. Changing the filter can spill oil in places you wouldn't think of looking.

Sounds like you got a whale of a deal!! Enjoy the new LS.

your right it was the exsoust but the burning smell the reason i got the oil change at 4000 miles was becouse i had the smell at that time and i thought maybe cuz the car was sitting in the dealership for over 1 year or more then let me change the oil -- so i changed it at the dealers and they said that all is looking good, by the way if i get out of the car i can smell it around the vehicle.

remember too your ls has an electic water pump that frequently runs for 15-20 minutes after the car's off

I agree. My LS makes this metallic pinging noise too. If I give the exhaust tip a tap with my foot, the noise stops. I think its one of the hangars cooling down.

Not sure what the source of the smell could be, especially if the dealer says nothing is leaking. When did you first notice the smell (mileage)?

i noticed it when i was hitting 3600 miles and i was driving from new york to west verginia and i stoped for gas in maryland and thats when i noticed the smell.

Big trip for a car w/ no miles on it, though I'm sure that is fine w/ the way cars are these days. I dripped some oil while changing mine before and when I'd stop for the first day there was white smoking coming up from the hood, people honked and I was like, yea its fine, just spilled oil.

So you took it to the dealer w/ 4K miles and they said it was fine? I'd do some more investigating or go back and tell 'em its worrying you.

yea im going to do that i have a appointment with the dealer on tuesday, it has been almost 1 month since the oil change and still i have smell - i think i found a thread that has the same issues that i am having http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=4267&highlight=burning
they say that maybe its my valve cam/ seals.
