Where Are The Lift Points? Installing new Shocks today and want to confirm where the lift points are.

i don't really understand where the alternate points are. those pics are rather small, and i'm not sure where the indicators are pointing to.

Did you look at post #10 in that linked thread, at all?

How are those pics small? and how can you not clearly see where the indicators are pointing to?

@All2kool

Bud, you need to learn how to search, seriously!

please consider using the following search syntax before starting new threads.

Code:
"lift points" site:http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/
"jack stands" site:http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/

in google, all you do it type in the key word directly followed by the site url and it will find all keyword related threads on this site only.

"lift points" site:http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/

"jack stands" site:http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/

You have to understand, this forum is a huge library running on an SQL database, it's full of valuable information, it's all been covered before already, there are 12 times over the same threads related to each topic. guaranteed!

Also, your lift point are/were covered in your Owners Manual which is also downloadable from this forum in the Tech Articles (top nav bar)

Basically, put the lift points under the notches where the scissor jack would go.

i dont like those... but you can, plenty do...

not a big fan either...

if your just using a jack, its going to crush the metal sideways.

if you do want to lift from there, I would highly recommend getting/making a jack adapter.

all you did was enlarge the smaller picture - making the resolution ****. do you have to be a doosh? all i said was that it wasn't easy to decipher for me. if others can, good for them. jesus. if you don't want to help, then don't. no reason to get snarky.

^ Hey, no need for the name calling! That's not tolerated around here!

You got what you needed but didn't really take it all in or put much thought into it, it's simple lift points on a vehicle, don't need any special degrees of education here on this one. Please don't also try this 'if you don't want to help' line with me, I've done plenty around here! You guys need to start self helping yourselves around here instead of all the belly aching.

Rig, the diagrams are small with low resolution. Your pictures are large and clear. HOWEVER, the FRONT alternate points are not clear at all. Your pictures just show the front scissor jack notches in use. So the information is NOT all there in post #10, considering not even in that thread is there a good description of how to place a jack and a stand in the same exact spot. It's not until post #12 where you mention, in response to Chris' lowered problem, that you place the jack behind the notch with a piece of wood for extra support next to the rail so that the notch is free.

illyc, the front outer alternate points are those round mounting bosses in the steering rack, as far as I know. I don't know what the middle one is, though

Personally, I jack it up from the notches and place the jack stands under those thick metal bars about 9" in from the notched rail. They are long, flat, and stick out relatively clearly from the sheetmetal. I believe they're on the bottom of the square tube rail that turns upward with the exhaust. You can see it here in Rig's picture

Your right, I can see by all those threads and pictures available how someone still couldn't figure out how to get an LS up on stands. It's so difficult to figure out!

thank you - that's incredibly helpful and much clearer to me

Please note---

I just the other day had to jack up my '02 Sport to change a tire. I found that the rocker panels were somewhat 'lacey'. (I'd taken my aluminum belly-pan---necessary to qualify for ECTA E Fuel Competition Coupe/Sedan--- off instead of subjecting it to a Michigan winter.) I'd attached it to the rockers just inboard of the pinch seams by using button head stainless sheetmetal screws. Removing it had left small holes and I found that the rockers were corroding from the inside outward.

I also have some rust showing at the dogleg areas on both sides aft of the back doors. So I'll be getting some rust repair done. It's my present plan, after discussion with my body man, to cut away the rusted portions of the rockers and replace with .125 plate.

Just to add: Part of the reason I prefer using those bars is because I initially thought (what I now know is the steering rack) it was aluminum based on it's color, and we should all know here you don't jack up aluminum. I assume it's steel, but I still don't like using it because the points are very close to the center of the car. Besides being less stable on stands, I was jacking the car pretty high off the ground to get enough clearance. On the flip side, being cylindrical in the right direction, they do respond well to the rotating the car does as you jack up the other side. I just stick to the bars and jack it up slowly, maybe 2 or 3 notches at a time after getting the stands in at the lowest setting.
