Okay, this may sound old to some (or a lot) of you, but for me this is my first time really shopping around for a Mark VIII and knowing what I'm looking at. So, for me it's just a little shocking some of the stuff that I see posted!

Of course, there's always the false "1996 Diamond Anniversary" or "1998 Collector's Edition" ads, or the ones advertising an "LSC" model that is so obviously not. This can be forgiven however, as many people are really just not informed at all about these models of vehicles.

But then there's people like this idiot: http://tinyurl.com/3ajpop

He seems to be trying to present himself as being very well-informed and informative about this car, but to those of us "in the know" he is so not. Listen to these claims:

  • 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII
  • "VERY RARE LSC MODEL" - Oh yeah, definitely rare if it's an "LSC".
  • "31 MPG @ 70.and 1750 RPM; 29 MPG @ 80 MPH and 2000 RPM" - Can anyone verify this for me? I'm sure that's nowhere near what I was getting with my '93.
  • "All ON REGULAR FUEL." - Boy have I got a "knock-knock" joke for you.
  • "Black Carriage top with moon roof." - Pardon while I vomit.
  • "DRIVE FULL SIZE SPORT LUXURY, SAVING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON YEARLY FUEL COSTS." - Over what, a Suburban?
  • "With the lowest co-efficient of friction 2.9." - Only number I was able to quickly find for the Mark VIII was a '93 with a drag c/e of 0.33. What is this guy trying to say?
  • "A fully automatic air suspension system that lowers the car body 2" closer to the road over 55 MPH." - Making this "LSC" even more rare, since all the other Mark VIIIs only drop 0.8", and even that's closer to 60 MPH!
  • "You are assured: MPG 32 @1750 RPM and 70 MPH; MPG 29 @ 2000 RPM and 80 MPH 31; @ 1,750 RPM and 80 MPH 28.5 MPG @ 2,000 RPM;" - Okay, I've lost track now. I'm getting what MPG at what speed and what RPM???
  • "Cruses at only 3 times 650 idle speed." - Is this really something special?
  • "After this there will be no more Marks available. Lincoln will never again produce the power plant and drive train components of the 1994 Marks." - I think there's a couple hundred members here that can attest that there's plenty Marks available in the world. And last I checked - part of this is even mentioned later in the ad - the 4.6L Ford modular engine and 4R70W transmission are still very much alive and kicking in production.
  • "Unlike any other car this Mark is BlindSpotLess. Right, no blind spots, anywhere. A factory feature. What a safety bonus!" - Uh, yeah... right. How many extra mirrors did you add?

*headdesk*

I've got half a mind to check out this one and actually buy it if it's in good condition, just to get the poor Mark out of that idiot's hands!

The only way I can respond to that ad, is to quote the cave man from the cieco commercial.."aaaaaa WHAT!"

Mines super rare too. I guaranty not one has the exact fading paint pattern as mine...I've seen similar, but not exactly.

If I roll down a hill and shut the car off...I use no gas at all, amazing.

Sounds about right and what I got before I dropped this 04 power plant in. With my tune now I get about 28/29 at 65-70MPH and about 24-25mpg at 75mph.

If its a 93 computer, thats possible. Also, the air ride computers can be flash programed using Ford software. If I did not see it, I would not have believed it. Once can even program a lower park height and a separate highway height so it slams at park but lowers less on the highway.

"After this there will be no more Marks available. Lincoln will never again produce the power plant and drive train components of the 1994 Marks."

And thank god for that, the new stuff made is MUCH better! LOL I guess its in the wording....

I would NOT buy this Mark.

All Marks are LCSs. The LSC trim package and options were introduced in 95.

LSC = Luxury Sport Coupe

I don't pay much attention to RPM and I believe my tach is a bit off anyway. But I can tell you that every week on my 400mi round trip I get 32mpg, not using cruise, averaging 77-78mph. At 85 it's more like 28mpg. I attribute some of this to the fact that my trip ranges from 5100' to 7300' above sea level, less air, so less fuel is used...

Oh, and I knew that joke was coming, because I have a knock sensor. :p

lolol- not even going to the tiny url - lol reading LVC's responses is funny enough! lol - someone, make the dude an offer!!!

All Marks are not LSC's. The LSC was a higher performance version of the Mark VIII. It had a less restrictive almost true dual exhaust system that added 10 horsepower to the stock Mark VIII's 280hp 4.6L DOHC V-8 for a total of 290hp. If I am not mistaken, the LSC also had electronically controlled adjustable shock absorbers that firmed up the ride like in the T-Bird Turbo and Super Coupes to improve handling, and softened the ride on straight line trips. The LSC's also had special LSC badging to distinguish them from lesser Mark's. And on the GEN II versions, the trim was monochromatic on the LSC models and chrome on base Mark VIII's.

Thats not quite true about adjustable shocks/ride control. In the supercoupes you have a switch for normal or performance ride control. On the 93 and maybe the 94's they also have adjustable orfice rear shocks. They just arent manually adjustable. Totally automatic.

All Mark VIIIs (LCSs and not) have the same automatically adjusting air ride system. It drops 0.8" at around 60 MPH, and kicks back up when the car slows down to city speeds again. See this video: http://www.markviii.org/LOD2/beam_ad.htm

Talking of daft people... Once a week i go on cars.com to see if that spring feature car has been sold. It has 70901 miles and used to be priced at 37002 anyway its now gone up to 39002!!! Crazy... lol.

The automatic air ride system is not the same as the electronic shocks. The air ride is the same on all Mark VIII's. It drops .8" above 55mph and raises .8" below 55mph. It also keeps the car level regardless of load. The electronic shocks on the LSC models vary the stiffness of the shock absorbers using an electronic solenoid mounted on top of the shocks that adjusts the shock valving, not the air springs, depending on the way the car is being driven. They are completely computer controlled and not manually adjustible like the T-Birds.

Thaywood, respectfully, don't argue, man.

There are NO electronic shocks on the LSC!!!!!!!!! Only Air Ride.

Lord knows I've replaced a few sets or Rear shocks and front air struts on LSC's. Buthumor me a bit. Where in this picture do you see a solenoid?

These pictures are from another member's Gen II.

Edit: And yes, these pictures are from an LSC. :D

Well, as it turns out, I may have been mistaken. I will have to wait until I get home, but I could swear that I saw in my 1996 Mark VIII sales brochure something about variable rate shocks. However, the Gen I Mark VIII's did indeed have actuator controlled variable damping REAR shocks. Look here: http://www.markviii.org/psjs_faqs/09299291.shtml
The Gen II versions did not have these shocks.

My 96 did not have the adjustable shocks. I just replaced them 6 months or so back. I'm thinking they were only on the earlier models.

I feel silly for saying this, but I have had my 96 for about five years and I have never actually looked at the rear shocks. But when I get home I am going to give it a look. Mine is not an LSC and I am curious to see if it has the adj. shocks. We'll see.

Ah, I thought we were talking about the springs, not the shocks. If I recall correctly, I think my '93 base model had some wiring going to the shocks before we ripped them out and put in the SensaTracs.

ONLY 93'S and maybe a few early 94's (notlikely, but maybe) had electronic rear shocks used for anti dive under braking,Ford then devised newer rear shocks with mechanical anti dive technology.

i have a set of 93 rear shocks with the actuators laying around .so i have seen them first hand,my 95 has regular shocks.

My 94 has sensors on top of the rear shocks. they are a big solenoid looking thing that clips to the top of the shock. ill get pics tomarrow when i have the car back from the shop were the power steering lines got replaced.

I've got 3 sets of those I should sell on as rare... and make a few Millions...

And from my Lincoln sources all Mark VIIIs are Luxury Sport Coupes and the LSC is a package.

Oh and If you think the LSC is a performance package ... I guess if you really think so... What is it 10 HPs from the true dual exhaust? Different gears but do they really make a difference?

To me the only thing the LSC give you is a little bit more money on a sale or something to list on eBay...
