I bought my 2004 LS used adn don't know the keyless entry number for the keypad on the door.

The manual says it is on the card in the wallet(No card) or on the computer itself.

So, where is the computer on the 2004? I assume the number is fairly short (5 digits?) and on the outside of the box.

Or, is there an easy way to get the password? This could be tricky due to theft issues.

Thanks,

Jim Henderson

It's behind the glovebox and it's fun to get to.
I removed the entire glovebox for my alarm and other electronics, but someone else may have an easier way to get to it.
I remember Quick looking for a pcm code in the same area, maybe he'll help if you ask.

I've had mine out a few times.

the manual says pull the glove box out then go after the PCM - takes a long time.

I now pull the lower pastic cover off from under the dash, lay on my back with a flash light in my mouth and the PCM is behind the glovebox in plain sight.

If you have to remove it
- just remove the two bolts holding the bracket at the rear of the PCM
- then go into the engine bay, remove the plactic cowl above the air filter on the passenger side
- remove the air filter and the bolts holding the plactic funnel that the air filter snaps into
- remove the nuts and plastic pieces that make the area a compartment
- the PCM is under all that. loosen the three bolts that hold the cable heads into the PCM, and pull out the cables
- the PCM just falls out.

That sounds like fun. Is the passcode visible once you pull the dash panel or will I need to remove the PCM to see it?

Supposedly the dealer can wave a magic wand over the keypad and get it, but they charge for that service. This is not a good policy in my mind for a recent buyer to have to pay. I may complain to the dealer and see if they will do it for free. It's not like they have to spend a lot of diagnosis time on it.

If they won't do it for free, crawling under the dash is my backup. I assume the under dash panel just has some snaps holding it in. Any hidden fasteners to watch out for?

Thanks,

Jim Henderson

it is suppose to be visible without removing the PCM

the lower plastic cover in the passenger footwell is only held in by plastic push pins

Ok, The factory keycode is not on the PCM.....

It will be either on the drivers door module, or the central security module (if it has one)

Most likely on the DDR which requires removal of the door panel. It will not be on the outside of the PCM.

What? why do you say that?

the initialization code for the factory reset of the keypad is on a sticker on the PCM. 04 Owners manual, page 148

"The keypad can be operated with the factory set 5
digit entry code; this code is located on the owners wallet card in the glove box, is marked on the computer module, and is available from your authorized dealer. You can also create your own 5digit personal entry code."

I sure hope it is on the PCM since I will be getting at it in the next week or so. The manual does say it is on the computer so I am hoping to get it there.

What a PITA that the Lincoln support line will not give out the PCM code to anyone but the original owner.

Next trick will be to get new keys programmed. What a pain that you have to have 2 keys in order to program more. I only got one when I bought the car, oh joy. The local key shop says they will cut the keys for something like $5, but only dealers do the programming and I bet they charge an arm and a leg for the first copy at least. I like the manual saying if you loose your last copy, it can get expensive and you have to tow it in. These antitheft keys are getting to be more of an inconvenience to the owners than thieves I bet.

Oh well, so far the car is pretty good, just some inconveniences due to the lock system.

Jim- Your story sounds like mine...

I just bought a 2003 LS8 Sport in Ohio and had it shipped to Southern California (like that don't have LS's in SoCal...) Anyway - it was the right price, the right color in & out, and the right options. - Nav, Reverse Sensors, Heated Rear Seats, AdvanceTrac, moonroof. I think everything but wood, and HID

When the car arrived - only one key worked. The other key was to another car - wouldn't turn in the lock cylinder. I was quoted $45 for the key and $45 for the program from the local Lincoln dealer. I ended up locating a locksmith (key shop) that had the equipt. to program the new key (I bought new two keys so now I have a spare. $20.00 for each key (including cut) + $30.00 to program each key. Yes, once I got one programmed - I could have programmed the last key myself, but I just wanted it done and done right.
Selling dealer took care of the cost.

The keyless card was also missing. I took the car to my local Ford dealer that I've bought several cars from and they plugged it into the computer and pulled the key code at no charge.

All is good now. Love the car.

Hey, you are in Yorba Linda, close enough that I could get there easily from Walnut. What is the name of the locksmith that made and programmed your keys? I really hate to pay twice as much to a dealer for something as basic as keys.

I have seen keys on Ebay but after shipping etc, it probably comes close to what you paid the locksmith, so the hassle wouldn't be worth it thru eBay.

Thanks for any pointers.

Jim - It gets even closer.

I bought the keys from Street Keys off Ebay, and was referred to Green's Lock and Safe in Covina.

LOCKSMITH/SECURITY/SAFES:
Green's Lock & Safe Co.
648 Shoppers Lane
Covina, CA 91723
Website: www.greenssecurity.com Matt Stewart
(626)967-6478
(626)653-0319 Fax

They had to download new software to load mine, so you should be good.

Call Greens - they should have the keys in stock and just do it all right then. Make sure their key stock has the Lincoln gunsite logo (if it matters)

I also have used a locksmith in Costa Mesa for my Sport Trac but Covina is almost next door for you.

Thanks,

that's a big help, I'll try them out sometime next week after I see the dealer for some warranty work.

There are many computer modules in the car, over 6. I work at a dealership, and work on these cars frequently, I honestly do not think it will me marked on the PCM, as the keycode is not stored in the PCM. It will marked on the module it is stored on, which should the Drivers Door Module.
