Please explain your answers, I'm really looking for as many opinions on this as I can find.

That's a more difficult question than I anticipated.

The knee-jerk response would be a united Islam, thinking that this would reduce violence. But unless this is first preceded by huge social reform, that just means we could be looking at a united huge population convinced that the rest of the world needs to be converted to their religion...

I'd rather have them fighting each other.

Until the hate that exists within is extinguished, I rather have them fight themselves, because if they aren't fighting themselves, they'll be fighting us.

Hi Fossten

That is what I was thinking.

Regards

Dereck

I have to agree with you fellows. Thinking about it that way, it does make one question whether or not we could learn something about what Iran's trying to do in Iraq, and pull some strings ourselves in that region.

That's one of the interesting possible consequences of a U.S. pull-out. You'll end up with a proxy war between the Saudis and the Iranians.

And $6/gal gas.

Expensive gas

$7.20? Dear lord.My wife HATES my "good gas"policy as it is!Can't imagine that.
It works out to almost 5$ imp . gallon here(1.14L)For the high test...
Interesting question tho...
Terribly unrealistic to think we'll ever "unite" muslims , since there are too many different facets under that umbrella.
I guess that leaves them fighting each other?

Gas prices have risen steadily since the elections, were I live it's currently $3.05 for reg and $3.40 for prem (+/- .05); do you think they're going to top-out anytime soon?

Market forces will cause gas to level out again pretty soon, unless there is some kind of external trigger, like a war in Iran, different problems in the Middle East, or some other disruption in supply. But we paid $3/gal last year and apparently the commodities traders think we'll be willing to do it this summer as well.

I think the commodities market are more responsible for the high prices than the actual oil market.

In regards to the poll, I just want to note, any support for a divided Islam is a short term goal. Ultimately, of course, it would be best for Islam to experience a peaceful internal reform, unite, and NOT hope to destroy the West and take over the old Ottoman empire and then the world.

But for right now, it's best they invest resources into kill each other.

Something to be said about diesels. B100 Rules... especially is you make it yourself.

Average cost? 50 Cents per gallon. :D

I've considered it, my friend owns a few restuarants I could gather used vegetable oil from; thing is the vehicle, I don't realy have use for a truck, so I'm stuck with either an older benz or VW...

As long as it's an Oil burner, 95. It doesn't have to be just a Truck. It just has to be a diesel motor.

I know, it's just that reliable diesels in America are limited to only a few cars/models. i.e. I couldn't go get myself a 2000-07 diesel caddy or lincoln.

It's interesting, if you scroll through the thread rather quickly, it has suddenly devolved into a panic attack about gas prices. Everybody's suddenly worried about their own behind. But don't you people fear. There's a real simple series of solutions to that problem.

1. Sponsor sectarian violence between Arab and Persian nations.
2. Step in without UN approval and start cleaning the place out, using CBGs in the Gulf and Armored divisions on the ground. Use the pretext that we are trying to prevent another Rwanda.
3. Threaten the Saudis with force if they don't discount our oil.
4. Start drilling our own wells, dammit!

Remember what we did at the dawn of the 19th century to the Barbary States.

Calabrio, don't fall for the idealistic thought that Islam will someday be reformed. It hasn't reformed since the 7th century. It is corrupt and violent and oppressive by its very nature.

Quicker solution....nukes (or carpet bombing)! operation "sheet 'o' glass"!!!!

gas prices..

That is a good point. How the thread has turned into "the high price of gas"!!
Limit our dependence on fossil fuels period.Renewable energies are the only hope.
And I'm sorry , but what saudi doesn't own , the chinese do in the states.(billions and billions of dollars.)People would fall over if they knew how true that was...
The last time I put an ultimatum to the boss , I was out of a job.

I agree completely.

However, I do want to point out. There are millions of muslims out there that DONT want to kill us and are not militant.

Only problem with that statement is that those nebulous people to whom you are referring are not in leadership positions.
