I'm in the market for a Gen 2, and I'm hoping to get some input to help me make a decision.

My requirements are: Gen2, heated seats, and moonroof.
I prefer gray interior, and I don't care for the white/ivory/tan exteriors. I've also found the more I see the octastars, the more they've grown on me.

I've found a few cars that interest me. 1 is a '97 LSC w/135K mi in blue (with octastars), and gray interior. They're asking $2850, and the car seems to be in good shape with the expception of the rockers. It would be a no-brainer, but body work is one thing that I don't do (I've rebuilt transmissions, and done just about every kind of mechanical and electrical repair). The potential cost of doing the body work (or further rot problems) scares me a bit.

The 2nd car is a CE w/76K mi, supposedly a garage queen its whole life. Cordovan with prarie tan. $4500. Already has the tinted windows and upgraded radio I'd install anyway.

I've seen a few others, but those 2 are at the top of my list at the moment. I'm not in a rush to buy, so waiting is always an option, but what do y'all think about the trade off of price/body work? Any chance the CE would have higher resale down the road? (there doesn't seem to be much difference right now).

Thanks in advance,
-Chris

Depends on the level of rust. I had my rocker repaired properly and it only cost me $245because the guy was doing jobs on the side. Given the difference in price though I would go with the lower mile car.

Guess I'm taking a trip to go look at the CE. Both cars are about 3-4 hours away. I am disappointed that the '97 has the rocker issues, b/c it's really a sharp looking car (and the color seems to be rare too, I haven't seen too many even after months of looking @ For Sale ads, etc). If I had a friend with a body shop.... The comments about mileage are well taken though, from what the owner of the CE tells me, brakes, tires, etc were replaced this year, and he said it doesn't need anything.

Thanks,
-Chris

the blue on the 97 is rare it was 97 only. i would love one, would have to be an lsc though, blue with black interior would be the ultimate, but i could live with the light graphite! i would at least look at the blue one too, dont rule it out the rust might not be bad at all. but the c.e sounds like the better one.

The blue one is sharp, if they were a little closer to me, or each other, I probably would have been out to visit them both already. Maybe I'll see if I can visit the blue one Sunday, I think it's a bit closer. The owner said the rust is through on the pass. side, and is bubbled on the other side. The hole is visible in the picture.

Whoa! I haven't even gone to LOOK at it yet!

As much as I like the look of the black interior, I also really like the look of a clean graphite interior, and I also like the fact that the lighter colored interior doesn't get nearly as hot when it's parked in the sun.
