I had a 4 hour class yesterday and my 03 Lincoln LS was sitting in the sun and when my class was over I went and started my car and it made this whirring sound. I drove it home with nothing happening (the drive didnt feel different) and I parked it in the shade. I called my mechanic and he suggested it was either the Power Steering thingamajig or the water pump. Now my first guess was the water pump as well but when I had to go to work later in the evening it was still making the noise when I started it up. While I was driving I jammed on the gas really quick so it could go through all the cylinders and give me whiplash and what not and the whirring stopped after I did it. Just to continue again when I got off of work and drove home. At one point I had it in park and I tapped on the gas and when the engine revved, the noise increased. Should I be concerned with the water pump?
