Who has the Navigation unit with the Satellite radio option? Was it dealer installed? Are you happy with it? I installed a factory (Sirius) system in my wife's car (Chrysler) and have put several aftermarket XM units in other cars. I like them all, but wonder about the specifics for the LS with nav... :feedback:

Thanks

I just had the Sirius satellite radio installed in my '04 Lincoln LS with the navigational system. It was a long, rough battle to find out what I needed to do to get it done.

When I originally wanted to get it, I contacted the dealer, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I had to show them the owner's manual to prove that it was a possibility. Next, I called Lincoln, and the first person I talked to referred me back to the dealer. I called Lincoln again and found a knowledgeable person who referred me to Visteon, the manufacterer of the radio. Through them, I found an aftermarket installer that could get the job done for me.

After all of this, I have to say it was worth it. It's nice to have a fully integrated satellite radio in the system, no extra wires, or pieces that you have to deal with. The worst part was the antenna. It's black and doesn't fit the design of the car very well. Oh well.

The radio works great and has the same look and feel as the other audio system screens. With the software upgrade, there are some additional options that weren't there before in the navigational system, so that's pretty cool I'm still working my way through the various options, but I would say to go for it. Check out evisteon.com, take their Mobile Electronics menu option, and find a local dealer. That would be the way I would recommend you proceed.

Thanks,
Ray.

Thanks Ray. I'll begin with my Lincoln dealer first, on the chance that they can handle it. I have done all of my on installs previously, including the factory kit in my wife's Chrysler. That gave me a little more freedom to locate the antenna in a less conspicuous place. We'll see how that goes. Thanks again for the feedback.

Ray,
Can you tell me what was involved? I'm trying to get the Satellite Radio installed on my '04 Navigator with factory Nav system. I would like to get a feel for what I should be hearing from the Visteon dealer...
Thanks.

The Ford Sirius kit can be found online for $200. You will also need a wiring harness that is $50. After that, it is a very simple matter to install. The most difficult part is the antenna. I installed the one in my Cobra under the center of the dash. They said it won't work there...but it does just fine. I can even pick up stations in my garage.

By the way, you have to have a satellite ready radio. That usually means 04 and up. You can tell if you have it by a SAT button on the radio.

For the '04 and up Navi's with the Nav and thx system, it is sat ready eventhough there is no button for it. What needs to be done is if you buy a system off of Ebay, you need to get the DVD that will change the screen. It basically replaces the FM2 soft button with Sat. Or so I am told.

I've know of several people that have had good luck mounting the antenna under the wiper valence. Reception seems to be good and it is hidden. Might be worth a shot. Good luck

You might want to look at the Kenwood DDX7015. It supports the following:
DVD NAV
DVD video
Compact disc digital video
DTS 2.0 Digital
Dolby Digital
RDS
TV
MP3, WMA
Siris Ready
HD radio ready

All works seamlessly through the touch screen or the remote. I've found this to be a very intuitive system.

do you think this kenwood would fit in a 2001 LS8? if so, how much of a hassle is it to install?

Yes, it will fit the 2001. The hardest part is cutting out the face plate. The top of the face is very thin so you have to be careful. Next is running the wires.

For those who have SAT for the lincoln touchscreen navigation system, please describe the interface. I know that fm2 is replaced by sat but can you confirm that pressing fm twice will still get you fm2 (ie you don't lose your other 6 presets)?

Also, what does the screen looks like when you press SAT?

I know you have presets, but can you search by categories, etc.

The dealer made it seems that the only way to navigate through stations is through presets but that doesn't make sense.

Nice setup! - can you take a picture of the radio closed up and turned on like it is now? im curious how it looks in the dash, its much bigger than the stock is sunk in the middle..

i was looking at an alpine but yours has caught my eye !

Thanks!

This pic is a is a little dark. Let me know if you need a better pic or a different angle.

Yeah that looks good, im just curious if you can 'possibly' take one in the day from the backseat of the car... The head unit you got looks GREAT!

I just want to see how large it looks in the dash compared to the rest of the dash.. so if you can sit in the middle of your backseats and snap a pic from between the headrests

Thank you SO much for doing the pics!

Oh thats all I wanted to see there man, thank you so much!! Guess i know what im getting.. not sure if its that exact model but it wont be a flip out screen thats for sure.

I'm going to get a few extra dash panels and like yours is setup with the black (like mine is stock) i want to surround the head unit with wood grain and leave everything else the way it is on the dash

THANKS AGAIN!

I like your idea of the wood grain console trim. I’ve been kicking the idea of that around myself. I’m not sure if I will, but if you do; post some pics.

OLLY, I actually took a hard look at the same Kenwood unit yesterday. It was being displayed right next to the Pioneer AV1C-D1. I thought the Kenwood was a much nicer looking unit. But I want navigation...and the nav for the Kenwood is several hundred dollars and it comes with the Pioneer. I think I'm going to go with the Pioneer unit. You have to either hack the software on the Pioneer or spend a hundred bucks and buy a DVD player to watch DVDs, but all in all, the Pioneer seems to have the features I want for a lot less money. I just need to get my kid busy hacking the software. You should see what he did to his X-box. Amazing.

When I go aftermarket its Kenwood all the way. The Pioneer is nice but I dont like the look of flip ups. Im pretty sure you can get the Kenwood with Nav for the price of the Pioneer. Crutchfield had a deal not too long ago and they are one of the more expensive places.

hey i run a audio installation shop in staten island new york. for factory units with built in sat ready you only need a receiver. you should not be paying more than 140 plus install or all inclusive in best buy. i also sell head units from kenwood, sony, pioneer, if you are looking for it we carry it brand new with warranty. anyone from lvc looking for something audio wise subwoofers, amps, dash units, anything email me executivechef01 on aol mention lvc and i will get you the best available prices. shipping is available.

While the flip up units have all the same great features and on top of that are much easier to install, I didn’t like the fact that when the screen is out it blocks the dash vents. I also think the in dash screen (not a flip out) looks MORE like it came with the car rather than after market. I’ve had the 7015 for a little over a year and no problems.

You guys are confusing the Pioneer models. I am talking about the D1...not the N2. (i think that's the models!) The D1 has the exact same double din full screen just like the Kenwood.

You will find it has two slots behind the screen...one for CD's just like the Kenwood, and another for the NAV DVD. It's a very clean installation and all the reports I've read rate the NAV system and DVD very high! The only two reasons I would shy away from the Kenwood is the price with NAV, and you have to find a spot to mount and wire the additional DVD drive. But your right...if I wasn't interested in NAV, I would be all over the Kenwood. It's a very nice unit.

By the way, the street price on the Pioneer is under a grand.

WOW, the D1 unit looks awsome. I like the fact that the DVD NAV is included in the unit along with XM NAVTRAFFIC.
