Humm i stripped out all the stupid dynamat extreme that i had and am gonna use second skin, which i should have done a long time ago. About how many sq ft of deadener is used in the LS's trunk to cover all surfaces completely including wheel well?

I have over 50sq ft in mine lol trunk lid doenst rattle neither does liscense plate or gas tank... I used the fatmat stuff and the spray sound deadener.. the spray worked wonders but its like 25 bucks a can.. i used like 4 cans...

WHY take out all the dynamat to just start all over again? Was your trunk still rattling real bad.. I went through almost two big boxes of dynamat in my trunk and 4 doors.. WOnder if you have it covered well?? I was just wondering why ya didn't like it.

spray that sound deadenin stuff and seal it up... that or just layer the new stuff over it, i wouldnt rip it up either..

I was gonna get a gallon of the roll on from eD and 60 ft hoping to do the trunk and doors. I think I might need more.

can i ask what the point of this is....... not understanding why you do it ,,,,, maybe i can learn something.

sound deadening eliminates road noise, rattles, squeeks,
Have you ever seen a lil civic that sounds like crap, cause all you can hear is his liscense plate rattlin of the back of his car.. well sound deadenin will eliminate most if not all, if applied right, and the inside will have a much cleaner bass...

Talking to ricer: "That liscence plate really hits! What state is that? I have to get one of those!"

side note:don't really think it stops squeeks.

well they say it can eliminate squeeks, how I dont know... got me..

I can tell you it's more for letting those on the outside of your car enjoy (or hate) what your playing then for those on the inside!!

And I can tell you if you have road noise, rattles or squeaks then there is something wrong with your LS. I hear almost nothing. If you read some reviews the LS has one of the most quiet interiors minus a little engine noise under hard throttle. I know that's how it is with mine. 2004 LS V8.

Take the bottom screws out of the license plate holder, get a few rags and shove them in between the license plate and vehicle. Yeah ghetto but problem solved and no one knows the diff.....

i'm not having and problems with my ls, no squeeks, rattles, i have over 50sqft of fatmat in my trunk and the spray deadener. my bass is super clean... and i'm running 2 l7' 15" solo barics, in a fiberglass install... which is almost finished...

i was explaining what the purpose of sound deadening is.....

I was responding to lonestars msg.. " can i ask what the point of this is....... not understanding why you do it ,,,,, maybe i can learn something."

Yeah but your point is moot..... You didnt really explain the reason for sound deadening.

decrease road, engine, and exhaust noises, decrease rattles and vibrations, increase SPL (how loud your stereo plays)increase dynamic range of your stereo system
Sound deadening is a generic term used for an assortment products used to control noise and/or structural vibration
There are different types of sound deadening...
Damper – by far the most common type of material. It uses mass loading to lower panel resonance and absorb structural vibrations, converting them into low level heat. Most commonly used throughout a vehicle to control structural related noises. They can also be used in conjunction with a composite to reduce road/engine/exhaust
Absorber – as the name suggests, these products literally absorb airborne sound waves. The sound waves have to propagate through the absorber and the open/closed cell foam will slow it’s progress reducing the overall level in the process. Most commonly used on floors and firewalls to reduce road/engine/exhaust noise.
Barrier – as the name suggest, these products form a barrier or wall, which blocks airborne noise from passing through. The denser the barrier, the more effective it is, which makes lead an excellent choice for a barrier. Most commonly used on floors and firewalls to reduce road/engine/exhaust noise.
Composite – Best results are achieved by using more than one of sound deadening, so a composite is quite simply a combination of two of the above types into a single easy to install product.

Hey Motts, with that spray deadener, does it cure to a hard shell or is it thin like paint? I've seen the cans for it but never saw it used in a car before.

Edit: my LS liscence plate doesn't rattle, I was making a joke.

It looks liek a thin paint.. all black.. doesnt bubble, it drips so make sure you cover everything, your rear window, your rear quarters, your trunk... it dries nicely...
I gutted the trunk, sprayed 2 cans of dynashield, laid the fatmat, then sprayed over with 2 more cans, I have the dynamat license plate, which works great..
I used dynashield its like 19.99 a can i used either 4 or 5..
If i hear a rattle, I'll find it and eliminate it... at least try to.. put it this way you can stand outside me car with the windows down about 2ft-4ft away and the bass will move your shirt.. I dont drive around with it all the way up.. I go to db competitions, shows, etc... As soon as I finish this fiberglass install i'm gona post a How to... 2 15'l7s a motorized amp that pops up all in a fiberglass install, custom painted,... with neons, strobes,, it looks good so far..

I assume you're going to have a raised trunk floor for your motorized amp rack? How are you positioning those 15's?

the 15's are raised and pointin outwards towards the rear, i experimented with just pointed up, forward, inward towards the rear, sounds better pointing out.. the amp rack is gona be coming up out of the middle section, with a flush flap over the top.. its gona be raised vertically, There wont be a spare tire by the way..... I'll have to call the lil lady and be like I needs spare!!... I thought about doing something wicked withthe back seat, eliminating the back seat, full blown system, all in fiberglass, shavin the rear doors, going sucide with the popping hinges, but i havent gotten that crazy yet... I gota bike to work on now.....
there is a post on here with some pics of some of my installs I'll find it if your interested

thx, the one i am doing now will blow away any install i have ever seen been workin on it for bout a month/half only had the car for 2 months...
I had a wicked install in my old montaineer, 2 15's no fiberglass, built in, with a raisin amprack, whoseyourdaddy has seen it.. i have pics at home.. i'll ppost in a few..

I just finished my girls mazda 6 last week, its built in the trunk with a raised roof for the spare, she has 4 10" l7's... she listens to a lota rock..

I have 4 15's going in the sport track, in the rear, its dropped on 22's right now...

and in the civic, the trunk it curently gutted.... its for sale, so i havent decided what i'm gona do yet, i had 2 12's l7s built in the back...

I have no life!! :slam
