An FDA panel is urging the government to ban Avastin from use by breast cancer patients. The panel says it is not convinced Avastin provides worthwhile benefits for patients with advanced breast cancer. The drug did not extend patient's lives, but delayed cancer growth by up to three months. If regulators follow the panel's advice drug maker Roche could no longer promote Avastin for that use in the U.S. Avastin is also approved for use in colon cancer patients.
