im bidding on this right now because i need a new radio screen because mines cracked to hell. i dont need the radio at all thats why I havent bought one because I dont want to pay over 50 dollers and most will only sell the radio not just the screen. is this the same size screen. im pretty sure it is I was just trying to make sure. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...00414967257&ssPageName=ADME:B:BCA:MOTORS:1123

I am gonna go with yes, and with three things attached to that..

1) based on past issues, the cd jambing thing is easily fixed

2) the unit you need can likely be found in a junkyard for much much cheaper

3) if your going to swap LCD's then you need a bit of electrical sense. (haha pun), and if you have electrical sense (hehe) then you wouldn't be asking.

Just my two cents, you could find another stocky for pretty cheap I am sure. Hell I busted mine on the ground from frustration, haha (cd jamming issues)

Avic Z3 Ftw.

well see im not buying it to use it, my radio works fine just my radio screen is cracked, so the only thing im going to use the radio for is to take out the small screen and glue it in place of where my cracked screen is. I just spend most of last week at 3 different junk yards and all the fords that will have the radio I need but all the radio's are already ripped out. thats the thing I dont wanna pay to much for any of it because im not going to use the radio, basically im paying 50 bucks for a stupid screen but the problem is everyone that is parting out a ls or ford that has the radio and screen that is identical to my 6 cd in my 03 wont sell the radio screen to me. I see why they dont because then they cant sell the radio because no one wants a radio without a screen so they all want atleast 100 dollers for a working 6 cd radio. so im kind of stuck between a rock and hard place when all I need is a stupid 1 doller plastis screen that glues in.

Word. If I had one here still, I would look at the LCD.. Sometimes there are identifying numbers (& google) and replacements are to be had on the cheap.

Bought and R&R a screen in my cell phone on the cheap, thanks Hong Kong!

Also.. It always seems that the junk yards pull out the radios and toss them in a bin or shelf somewhere. I vaguely remember always seeing a container full somewhere. lol

so what in your opinion would you do if your me. ive already decided if i get outbid im not rebidding. but you think I should try and let it go and just find someone selling a radio or try to keep searching junk yard every so often or what. this is really just more of a pain anything when all i need is a radio screen that is like an inch wide and 2 inches long. wtf:mad:

It will likely take a bit more than gluing to replace a screen in one of those radios.

Also, the chances of you finding just the LCD are basically zero. That's a very specific part that was probably only manufactured for a specific number of units, with no spares being made. It's likely that if anyone has ever had the LCD go out on them and had a dealer fix it, it would have ended up being the entire HU that was replaced. Also, no one's going to want to pull one out of a fully functioning unit since that will basically destroy any resale value it's got. You'll probably just have to give in a buy a whole unit.

I personally would crack the thing open see if there is numbers on it to cross reference a replacement. You would become familiar with its internals, etc. in the process. If you :q:q:q:q it up you would need a new one anyways, so no loss. If you do the radio in completely then you will have it fixed in no time! :)

That literally is my thought process. The more screwed it is, the faster it gets repaired. hahaha.

If you can't find a replacement screen, then call the junkyards and ask for a replacement. Very common POS radio, should be had pretty easily. I should be doing some scavaging myself, so if I come across one (or two, cause mine is in multiple pieces in some landfill), I will send it to ya. :)

I need a stupid window regulator.

Last Ford I buy, I swear. :)

Meh, maybe he get lucky and it just be a plug in ribbon cable and some plastic tabs. Happens often..

Near zero.. most electronic gizmos, are just cheap generic parts fashioned in a very organized way with some programming. It will take work to find one, but it does minimally potentially quite possibly exist. ;)

Yeah, but since when does the dealer actually fix "just" the problem??

If they could, trust me they would just give you a new car whenever your tire went flat. hahaha :p

I agree with the OP, who the hell would wanna spend 100 bucks on some POS ford generic crap radio??

:q:q:q:q, I am tempted to find him another LCD just for the challenge. :D

yeah thats pretty much what i figured. i took out the radio screen and screen on the ac unit off that were basically held in from glue or epoxy w.e it is because i got my grey pieces professionally painted to match the outside of my car. well somehow i dont know from my little brother in the house or something happened and broke the radio screen, so I got tired of not having any radio or ac or vents or anything in the car so I just superglued the screen that goes on the ac face back on and has held fine and installed everything back in the car and ive had it like that for a month or so just no radio screen. ive just been putting off buying a whole radio unit until I went and looked in the 2 junk yards by my house but like I said none were to be found. so now ive decided to just buy a whole ford radio unit at the cheapest I can, like not over 50 dollers. beens the radio im bidding on is just a stock 6 cd ford radio and looks just like the one in my ls, im betting on the screen being the same size. it looks like it so im just being hoping for a miracle.

It's not LCD, it's Vacuum florescent. There's a big difference. (One of the differences is that LCD is low voltage. VF is high voltage.

True story, and if it is.. it will be very difficult to find a replacement w/o gutting another unit.

I don't personally remember tho, and I have had the radio apart.

I hate to tell you this, but I work for an oem parts warehouse and the radio that you are looking to replace the screen on goes for 700 bucks. That's what we sell it to dealers for at cost. To get the screen out of one either scavange a junkyard for a ford radio, or just suck it up and replace the factory unit with an aftermarket radio with way more possibilites of expansion. I am actually suprised to hear that someone wants to listen to fm radio anymore. I have satellite radio and love it. Haven't had to wait for music because of commercials for over five years.
