Well, my drivers side window regulator took a crap on me. Got the door panel off and had a local shop look at it. They wanted $280 to find a regulator(HAD to be one of theirs) and install it! Told'em to forget about it! My mark 8 parts guy is pulling one for me, $50. ? is, any tricks and info i should know before i tackle this project myself? I have never even put one in before and it looks like a mess to me! Help!!

I just did the passenger side regulator yesterday. Most of the time it's the small nylon "torque pins" inside it that disintegrate, and if that's the case it's $5.xx for a new set on eBay (thanks for the tip School Zone.) If the 62 tooth gear is bad, napa sells a regulator repair kit (just the 62 tooth gear and the torque pins) but it's like $35. (see this page for regulator rebuild pics and instructions, the only difference I found between that page and my regulator was a phillips screw instead of torx.) If it's the motor itself I have no idea.

Hey Medium this is great information... I think we should have Joey put a spot in the Tech section for info on issues just like your are saying..

Not just how to fix but what maybe needed for things...

My Driver's side window went off track on Wednesday... I thought regulator Damn as they are not cheap and because some are a BXitch to put in they if you go to a shop it's going to cost you..

Luck for me all mine needed was some glue to hold the window back in the track it popped out of. Regulator was fine..

But knowing that we can get the parts that poop out cheap it will help save when the regulator goes out. Thanks.. Medium..

what exactly is it doing. the regulator itself failing is very uncommon ( i have a brand new 1 since someone mis-diagnosed the car)

the motor fails on most of them. it IS available seperately. much easier to change. the regulator sucks due to the spring.

you will hear the motor running but its not moving the window. it fails internally at the transmission.

Got the window fixed on wednesday. Got a used regulator and motor and found out the regulator was fine. The gear with the bearings inside the motor was bad. All and all, a quick and cheap fix.
