Anyone planning to try it out? I know there are a couple computer guys on here too.

I got a copy but don't want to run it on my main box... got to get that new one built first...

I'm not paying for vista when 7 is just around the corner.

Your thoughts?

Thank god! I hear Microsoft is tossing in the towel on VISTA?

Im gunna try it out...pm sending in process.

Funny, 7 Beta looks almost identical too Vista, I'm running it as a virtual machine, no sense in loading it on a drive and having to remove it later. Use VMware workstation, load it, test it, do whatever you want to it and then just delete it later. You can also set snapshots for any virtual machine you setup, once it gets fubared just restore to a good snapshot and start over. I can provide a license key for VMware workstation 6.5 if anyone wants to try it out.

I'm running it virtually on a 3.4Ghz Pent. 4 with 4 Gigs of RAM on my XP Pro box. Seems to be running just fine.

Actually, I'm making this post from 7 beta running firefox.

Its supposed to look like Vista but run like XP. From what I gathered at least. I could be wrong. Either way I hate vista so Im glad to see it go. Still gotta try this out though.

Well my VM is only configured to allow 7 to use 1 Gig of RAM and it seems to run a lot better than Vista ever did with 2 Gigs. Granted this is just the Beta, how much other crap will Microsnot add to it before it is released. I will say that 7 is running better in the Beta version than ME ever ran period.

So why do they claim to be canning Vista? If the changes are significant enough should it still be considered Vista?

Either way they are calling it 7 so....:D

Sooner is right, it is Vista, it's just a slimmed down version of Vista. Vista is a resource hog and is frankly just annoying with all it's pop ups asking you if you want to actually launch this program, "Well, I clicked on it so I must want to!"

I understand the purpose of the UAC (User Account Control) but it really should be smart enough to see the difference between the user launching an app vs. a piece of spyware or a virus launching an app. It's so annoying that I turn UAC off first thing when working on a Vista machine. This of course defeats the whole purpose of UAC but it's one of the first things done by most people.

Essentially, Windows 7 will hopefully just be a more user-friendly Vista for the normal end user. Vista has had a bad rap from the get-go and changing the name and tweaking it will probably help Microsoft's sales, it would be nice for them to offer a free upgrade option to those who have machines running Vista but it is Microsoft we're talking about and they don't like giving things away for free.

Yeah, I wasn't attempting to challenge sooner I just really didnt understand Microsofts point. Vista users that are burden by it cause they purchased a new machine would probably be happy to hear it is Vista but way more end user friendly.

 I snapped late into the first week of owning our latest PC cause of all those reasons. I network to my media center and other things and all that crap became so frustrating to work around.

Eventually I decided to just set the thing back to stock once in a while cause it really bogged me down but eventually I got sick of that and went back to XP. I think Im gunna wait for a official release to give it a try.

Ok guys... I got vista, err umm windows 7 up and running today.
Looks good so far. Like I said before I have never used vista so the change from xp is significant, but pleasant. Once I get the UAC squared away I will be happier.
My impressions so far are great. It seems to run faster than my xp did. It is running on the same system, same hard drive and everything. I set up a dual boot configuration. Granted it is a clean install so there are not extra programs hogging the CPU, but it is running well. Posting with IE8 right now. Ran 30 min of COD4 just after the install and it was noticeably better/faster than the experience in xp. Win7 will support DirectX11 while xp only supported DX9. I'm running an older AGP video card but still noticed an improvement. W7 downloaded several updates after installation, including a pre-release driver update for my video card.

System specs:
Windows 7 32-bit
Pentium4-HT 2.6ghz 800mhz FSB
2gb DDR 400mhz RAM
128mb AGP ATI Radeon x700
500gb Seagate 7200.11 SATA 1.5
550W Cooler Master power supply in CM 690 case

Here's a shot of my WEI: not bad for a 5+ year old system

Anyone else running Windows 7 yet?

I still use XP, am totally happy with it. Until I can't run the programs I like, I will keep it.

to each their own.... I'm always on the lookout for the next best thing.... the bigger and the better.... an upgrade for no other reason than to upgrade.
But it keeps me entertained.
