Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but did not Saddam simply have to show the U.N. inspectors, in good faith, that he did not have them?

Did not UN weapons inspector Dr. Hans Blix say that Saddam was not cooperating in good faith?

Was Saddam given ample time, 3 months, to hide them, or give them to other countries?

It was his war to prevent.

You tell me.

It wasn't anything about good faith... it was part of the ending of Gulf War.
3 months he had been saying FU the the UN for years.
As for the UN it's a joke .... they'd show up with flashing lites on their thucks

We know that Saddam was bribing whole countries during this time, including prominent UN members, so it wouldn't surprise me if Blix' pockets got lined as well.

Tell me the war was not justified and not about WMD!!! (bold emphasis added)=========================================================== Saddam Hussein's Defiance of United Nations Resolutions[font=arial, helvetica, sans serif]

Saddam Hussein has repeatedly violated sixteen United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs) designed to ensure that Iraq does not pose a threat to international peace and security. In addition to these repeated violations, he has tried, over the past decade, to circumvent UN economic sanctions against Iraq, which are reflected in a number of other resolutions. As noted in the resolutions, Saddam Hussein was required to fulfill many obligations beyond the withdrawal of Iraqi forces from Kuwait. Specifically, Saddam Hussein was required to, among other things: allow international weapons inspectors to oversee the destruction of his weapons of mass destruction; not develop new weapons of mass destruction; destroy all of his ballistic missiles with a range greater than 150 kilometers; stop support for terrorism and prevent terrorist organizations from operating within Iraq; help account for missing Kuwaitis and other individuals; return stolen Kuwaiti property and bear financial liability for damage from the Gulf War; and he was required to end his repression of the Iraqi people. Saddam Hussein has repeatedly violated each of the following resolutions:

UNSCR 678 - November 29, 1990

  • Iraq must comply fully with UNSCR 660 (regarding Iraq's illegal invasion of Kuwait) "and all subsequent relevant resolutions."
  • Authorizes UN Member States "to use all necessary means to uphold and implement resolution 660 and all subsequent relevant resolutions and to restore international peace and security in the area."
UNSCR 686 - March 2, 1991

  • Iraq must release prisoners detained during the Gulf War.
  • Iraq must return Kuwaiti property seized during the Gulf War.
  • Iraq must accept liability under international law for damages from its illegal invasion of Kuwait.
UNSCR 687 - April 3, 1991

  • Iraq must "unconditionally agree not to acquire or develop nuclear weapons or nuclear-weapons-usable material" or any research, development or manufacturing facilities.
  • Iraq must "unconditionally accept" the destruction, removal or rendering harmless "under international supervision" of all "ballistic missiles with a range greater than 150 KM and related major parts and repair and production facilities."
  • Iraq must not "use, develop, construct or acquire" any weapons of mass destruction.
  • Iraq must reaffirm its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
  • Creates the United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) to verify the elimination of Iraq's chemical and biological weapons programs and mandated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verify elimination of Iraq's nuclear weapons program.
  • Iraq must declare fully its weapons of mass destruction programs.
  • Iraq must not commit or support terrorism, or allow terrorist organizations to operate in Iraq.
  • Iraq must cooperate in accounting for the missing and dead Kuwaitis and others.
  • Iraq must return Kuwaiti property seized during the Gulf War.
UNSCR 688 - April 5, 1991

  • "Condemns" repression of Iraqi civilian population, "the consequences of which threaten international peace and security."
  • Iraq must immediately end repression of its civilian population.
  • Iraq must allow immediate access to international humanitarian organizations to those in need of assistance.
UNSCR 707 - August 15, 1991

  • "Condemns" Iraq's "serious violation" of UNSCR 687.
  • "Further condemns" Iraq's noncompliance with IAEA and its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
  • Iraq must halt nuclear activities of all kinds until the Security Council deems Iraq in full compliance.
  • Iraq must make a full, final and complete disclosure of all aspects of its weapons of mass destruction and missile programs.
  • Iraq must allow UN and IAEA inspectors immediate, unconditional and unrestricted access.
  • Iraq must cease attempts to conceal or move weapons of mass destruction, and related materials and facilities.
  • Iraq must allow UN and IAEA inspectors to conduct inspection flights throughout Iraq.
  • Iraq must provide transportation, medical and logistical support for UN and IAEA inspectors.

UNSCR 715 - October 11, 1991

  • Iraq must cooperate fully with UN and IAEA inspectors.
UNSCR 949 - October 15, 1994

=============================================================

These are just a few. There are over 30 more UN Security Council Statements directed towards Iraqs refusal to comply with the cease-fire agreement.

I am so glad Bush at least knows how to read. It was obvious that Clinton couldn't. I am also glad that Bush had balls, because it is obvious that Clinton didn't!

The funny thing is that we've been hashing this out for over a year. And the same points keep being brought out to logically explain the chain of events. And the only thing the left can say is "Bush lied." Of course a complicated and circumstantial list of supposed evidence is given to "prove" their point. They'll grasp at any straw. It's funny really, and quite the broken record.

What happened under the Clinton administration was the United States lost all credibility when it came to backing up its word. We had become the paper tiger. Saddam knew that. That is why he kept snubbing his nose. If you want to lay blame, I would lay it at the feet of the French, Germans and Russians who insisted that the US would not 'go it alone' without their consent and help. They were enablers that encouraged Saddam to stick to his bluff when the U.S. called 'ALL IN". They caused the war to happen, NOT the U.S.

Thank God Bush had the courage to work with Britain and Australia to get the job done for the peace and security of this world.

I heard John Howard from Australia speak yesterday and what he said about the GWOT was brilliant. He described the attacks in Bali and elsewhere BEFORE Australia had any involvement in Iraq. The guy laid it right out there. In the end, the 3 guys that knew the world need to act, Howard, Bush and Blair all won stunning re-elections. If the media was even close to being neutral on reporting the news, liberalism and the Democratic Party as it stands today would be dead.

Not only that, but more recently, Spain, which capitulated to terrorism, had a change of government leaders. Kinda makes you want to say, "Hmmm..."

Remember that the French and Germans were probably two of the countries being bribed by Saddam. Corruption at the highest levels.

Ok..so here goes Bryan with the "ignoring the UN" thing again. Didn't the US ignore the UN when they decided to go it alone? So if Saddam ignores the UN, and the US ignores the UN who's worse? Oh yea..nevermind the fact that Israel (the US best buddy) has ignored UN resolutions for HUMAN RIGHTS for years!! Oh..did I mention the Prime Minister of Israel is a convicted war criminal?? Oh..and they also have WMD for sure (which Iraq didn't). When is the US going to attack Israel for ignoring the UN? And there are many other countries that have also ignored resolutions too. (but they didn't have any oil, so they weren't bothered with). So Bryan...what should it be?? Should the UN resolutions be followed? I mean, Saddam ignores them, the US ignores them, Isareal ignores them. etc.. Fess up...the US lied about why they were going to Iraq. Plain and simple.

Well Ron I’ve got to say it is nice to see you come out from behind the BUSHes. (Pun Intended)

Explain to me why, on November 8, 2002, the fifteen members of the UN Security Council voted unanimously in support of Resolution 1441. Resolution 1441 maintained that Iraq is and has been in material breach of all Security Council resolutions pertinent to the 1990–91 Gulf War. (More than 15 in toto). A unanimous agreement despite the fact that France, Germany and Russia were trying (in vain) to protect their oil contracts with Saddam and the kickbacks they were receiving in the Oil for Food program.

All these resolutions dealt with disarmament and international weapons inspections and also attempted to deal with human rights, including the accounting of missing Kuwaiti nationals and property.

Bush went to the UN 2 times (I believe) along with Colin Powell 1 time (I believe) and made the case for war against Iraq. Everybody agreed with Bush. Not one country spoke up and said wait, your intelligence is faulty. Saddam didn’t buy any uranium cake and we know for a fact that he destroyed all his weapons.

I love the left. You guys are the best revisionists. Johnny come latelies. (Sorry Johnny, LOL).

The US should pull out of the UN and send the UN packing back over to some place like France. Yes, France would be perfect. Then we can get to the business of protecting the world from itself which has been our duty since our founding fathers signed on the dotted line.

The left continues to advocate a game of (russian) roulette with millions of innocent lives. I refuse to play that game. Play it long enough and you lose every time. Had Saddam provided full disclosure he'd still be in power and his sons would be enjoying their Ferraris instead of their 72 virgins.

Ok, point by point, here we go:

1. Neither the U.S. nor Israel invaded Kuwait to steal its oil, opening themselves up for UN inspections through that and gassing their own people. That is an important link in the chain of events you are conveniently ignoring.

2. Bryan has already mentioned this, but we only went to Iraq over the protestations of certain bribed countries, such as Russia, France, and Germany. Big deal. They had no credibility anyway. Interesting, though, how they immediately jumped in after we did the dirty work and offered to help us "clean up" ($$$$$).

3. Oh...did I mention that the former President of the United States is a convicted perjurer? (So what?)

4. China is the poster child for human rights violations, yet the U.N. doesn't do a thing about that. Israel doesn't even come close. But China isn't being continuously attacked by her neighbors while being told by the U.S. to take it easy on the retaliation, so cut Israel a little slack.

5. Show me the resolution that the United States ignored by going into Iraq.
