I planned on slotted rotors, braided lines and good pads anyways, but last night I found the limits or near the limits of the stock brakes. I CANNOT get over how sweet this car handles for what it is, and the linear power. I work at the airport (sort of) and it was like 3:30am, and it was EMPTY, I know the security guys, well all the overpasses, and bridges, and long swept turns going in and out of the airport were all mine last night, maintained about 90mph in there, sweeping turns, up hill twists, downhill hard turns, straightaways, etc.... Well pushing the :q:q:q:q out of the car last night brake fade was horrible, they faded everywhere, and when I stopped, they smelt horrible, burning pretty bad. I drove it this morning and it doesnt shake the pedal, so I didnt warp any rotors, but I was just amazed after like two hard braking maneuvers they were almost worthless, took a ton of pedal input to get them to work... I had a blast though, I wanna get some video next time....

oh, forgot to ask, does anyone make any brake upgrades ? Oversized brakes in particular.... I doubt slotted rotors will help much, the lines and the good pads should help a bit though

Stop-Tech's Big Brake kit...

But you'll need $5000+ for the kit and 18 wheels to fit the rotors...

You'd be suprised how much you can improve the stock system with a few aftermarket parts though. Quick LS has autocrossed his LS with just a few mods to the brakes for some time now.

Oh and Cruzn...slotted rotors will help ALOT! This will allow the gasses that hot brakes make to dissipate more effectively thereby reducing fade.

I have the StopTech Big Brake kit on my LS and the are absolutely awesome! They are expensive and may be over kill for the daily driver but you'd be surprised at how they stop. Your car will stop on a dime and you'll get change back!

A set of high performance pads and cross drilled and slotted rotors (or just slotted for you drilled haters) will greatly reduce the fade.

Just adding slotted or cross drilled rotors will not help with fade. The only way to reduce fade is to increase the thermal capacity of the disc or the amount of heat transferred to the brake fluid through the caliper. The benifit of a slotted disc comes in the reduction of the transfer layer of the pad so that no film builds up on the disc reducing the coefficient of friction between the disc and the pad.

to reduce fade you need to reduce heat and the film/dust the pads creat...like you said. you can reduce heat significantly with drilled rotors. you can reduce the film with the slots.

While I cannot comment directly on cross drilled rotors reducing temperatures since I haven't seen them on a dyno or any vehicle with dataloging on temps, I am sure the stress concentrations and cracking created by the holes more than offsets their benifits of cooling. Otherwise you would see race cars with cross drilled rotors rather than sloted rotors.

On the other hand, if you do not thermally cycle your discs enough to where the cycling will cause the discs to crack, then the drilled rotors may be ok for show, but still a dimpled disc would still be better.

Yeah, I'm in the middle of buying a house, and I'm not spending 5 g's on brakes lol. I'm not cheap either, I'm just not going to spend that kind of money.... Does anyone know if they ebay rotors are any good, see they all day long, 160 bucks for all 4, drilled and slotted, good pads, and braided lines. I did braided lines on my truck and it helped alot so thats a for sure deal....

Anyone have any input on pads ?? My car still has factory stock brakes and the dust is hurrendous.... I wash the car ever day, and I drive about 70 miles a day. Each day the wheels are absolutely FILTHY. Low dust is probably the most important thing I'm looking for in new pads.

I just can't see the benefit on a street driven car of drilled rotors. Why put up with the possible headaches of cracks, etc associated with them? Slotted rotors, however, make a lot of sense.

Brake fade can be controlled a ton simply with pad compounds. But remember, there is ALWAYS a tradeoff. Brakes that have excellent capabilities when hot are always poor performers when cold...and vice versa. Pick your poison.

My stock rears are basically dustless and seem to be fine but I could swap those too, I would like to do something up front at least...I am going to be getting new wheels and after a few days of driving my stock fronts are black, I was thinking about slotter and/or drilled rotors with new pads up front for now or would it be better to do all 4 rotors/pads?? Please recommend some new non-dusty pads..thanks
