I bought a house about 90 days ago, the house had some problems, the deck needed to be repainted, new windows, and serious landscaping. I am working on the landscaping myself, and will do the windows next year. I start looking for estimates for the deck, first guy tells me 675 to strip the deck, second guy tells me 1000 then tells me if it were his house, he would rebuild the whole deck. My deck is is probably 12x12 with 10 stairs leading up to it, then the third guy, a marine tells me the deck is in good shape, and all i should do is repaint it, he said he would charge 200 plus supplies, which should bring my total to about 350. I tell the third guy my first two estimates, and he tells me "they see you are military, they know you arent affected by the economy" I tell him Colorado Springs is majority military, there is 1 huge Army post, and 4 Airforce bases, so the economy should be pretty stable, Right? The second story is just as good as the first, I work 7 days a week if i dont make mission, I am new at recruiting, so I have worked the past two weeks, my neighbor has a lawn service cut his grass, and i thought, I deserve to have someone cut it just this one time, I ask him how much would he charge, he said 25 for once a week and 45 for every two months, So i said F it, i will let him cut it just this one time, the mfer charges me 45 because i dont intend to use him every week, and he didnt even weedwack in the rocks surrounding my house. I am so tired of people seeing that I am young and thinking they can take advantage of me. I am going to dye my hair gray. I am done venting!

LMAO!! Its like when I take the Wifes little 4cyl. Benz out and people see me in it, they think Benz=Rich I LMAO!!! Its worth 16k!!!!!

Reasons why I don't pay anyone to do anything for me... cause they are always gonna :q:q:q:q you if they can..

I was thinking that, but I havent been making mission, so i have been working 7 days a week, I may get Sunday morning off, if I pray hard enough.

I can imagine summer is tough for recruiters, but when school is in you can grab a TON of seniors...

I personally know 4 friends going into the marines that just graduated.

I never related the militarty to money. I always thought military = underpaid. I think you guys should get paid more.

I havent had a chance to recruit while school was in, it's hard selling the military, especially with whats going on, the poor economy helps out a little bit, but not enough.

I think people know that we aren't affected by the economy, I see Service Members buying new Camaro's Challengers, and jet ski's when others are fight to keep their homes out of foreclosure.

Spot on. The private sector folks figure you've got a steady paycheck that will keep coming that, even if it's not as high as it should be, is still better than many in the private sector.
