I don't play online gaming but I just bought my son the gold membership for X-Box Live about 3 weeks ago and now they are going up to $59.99 a year but..... I can pay $39.99 right now and lock in my yearly rate at $49.99 and save $20.00 lol.

The one month subscriptions and 3 months are also going up. $7.99 and $24.99 or $59.99 and I think this starts on Nov 1st or you have until then to lock in your current rate. I'm leaving mine alone. 3 or 4 weeks old and actually saving $10.00 just doesn't justify paying them $39.99 right now. Maybe for someone that is about to run out or has a few months or less left.

I think they should be like the PS3 and be free. I thought I was doing good by getting it online for him but then he wanted the X-Box online because it has a mic and headset. now he wants a headset and mic for the PS3. I'm just not winning this game. Every time I walk past him, I feel like I have to duck and dodge because he finds new things and hits me up with them if I walk through there. I feel like I'm in MW2 and I need a weapon as I go through the living room.

Anyway, just letting you gamers know that the X-Box Live subscriptions are going up but two new things are coming out. ESPN3 and Kinect Live, I think that's it.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get him a mic or let him play with a mic on. From what I remember, your kid is below 12 years old and you have no idea what people can say on the mic.

But if you are willing to buy a mic for the PS3,(since you said he is good and would never say stuff like that) you can get it for like 10 bucks.

BTW Why does he need Xbox Live? Does he play online on Xbox?

fyi I think LIVE should be free, they charge out the @SS for such minor things.....even buying a piece of clothing for your avatar can cost around 5 bucks! that's rediculous! or the game downloads (downloading whole games) are more costly than buying used on ebay or gamestop or gamefly.

I think they are raising it because of Halo Reach and I don't play enough to even bother going online

Yes, he plays X-Box online or as of about 3 weeks ago. I got him the gold membership and I have walked in many times while he's playing and disconnected the mic jack from the remote and he's playing with kids his own age. They sound young anyway. So far, I haven't heard him repeat any bad words if he's hearing them but he knows if I catch him, it will be shut down on the spot.

I have heard a few older kids and older guys with the language problem on games like Halo3 and this was when I first got him the membership. He hears me from time to time so I really don't see much difference as long as he does not repeat what he hears and he doesn't.

Like someone mentioned on another thread once. If they get into a game and hear kids yapping, they move on to one where there are none because the older people don't want to hear the kids. I think "chicken" mentioned that.

Pete, I know what you mean about the cost of clothing. My son got me for $10.00 on the PS3 one day within a 2 hour time frame. I had no clue until I checked my email and had 7 messages saying I had added $5.00 to my wallet twice. It also shows me everything he bought. I explained to him in a very blunt way to never buy anything else and then I noticed I didn't have it set so that he needed a password for purchases. That's now set and he has no clue what the password is but even if, he won't do that again.

Jamie, I used to play Atari back in the day and loved it but if I brought out something like that right now after he's had these games, he would laugh at me. He'd be asking me where the HDMI hookup was lol.

Anyway, as long as he does good in school and he doesn't repeat what he might hear online, I'm fine with it. Other 8 year olds around us are out running in the streets and riding their bikes all over. At least I know where my kid is. If he was out with the others, he's going to hear that same language and more subject to start acting like the other kids and ending up in trouble like I did when I was young.

Is 5 bucks a month really gonna bankrupt people? lol

It's not that it went up too high. The thing is, I just paid for the gold membership 3 to 4 weeks ago and they wanted me to pay another $39.99 to lock in my current $49.99 price. That would have had me paying $80.00 for this year lol. If he's still playing it online next year, I'll just pay $59.99 next year. They're treating it like interest rates, in my case.

its not the extra money, its the fact the i think its alread too high, but of course i'm probably going to pay it any way, especially if medal of honor is good because mines dues in a few months

thats why i like the ps3, free online. sure they need money to have servers for the game etc but doesn't the game cost cover that. its also nice cuz at my buddies house i made another account so i could play when i was there and didnt fukk up his stats, and if i wanted i could do it a hundred times oner
