I just got my Xcalibrator 2 Flash tuner from http://www.reinhartautomotive.com/ and got it next day for next to nothing too. The user support at reinhartautomotive was very helpful and very classy. They did not proceed to bash the competitors out there that offer tuning chips or flash tools like Lincolnmotorsport, Diablo, Superchips, or Hypertech just to name one we readily know. They simply explained the differences between all the products out there and stated all offer great products for our Mark VIII's. The Xcalibrator 2 stood out for me because you can have 3 separate tunes configured on the tool not including the factory PCM default. The flexiblity of changing your shift points is very straight forward, along with other timing settings if you so choose to change the settings already provided with the tune called "premium fuel". The setup to add tunes from your laptop/pc is a breeze.

But now to the meat and potatoes, the "premium fuel" tune itself. I have custom magnaflow exhaust system that is true dual (two high flow performance magnaflow cats through 2.25 tubing to two stainless high polish mufflers with dual magnaflow tips...similar to Geno's mufflers offered at Lincolnmotorsport) and a BBK cold air intake with the a new stock MAF (since the original was faulty and needed replacement). I had gone to my local Lincoln/Mercury dealership previously in the year and had tune up done which included new sparks and wires and throttlebody cleaning. Well after uploading the new tune from the Excalibur 2 all I can say is WOW. That damn thing had my head snapping back and like my old 93 Gen1 Mark VIII I had before my Gen2, the damn car now tire chirps easily when going into second gear. My Gen2 now scares me and I like it. I live in the Baltimore/DC corridor, so there is a nice stretch of interstate (I-95, I-70, or I-795) where I could open her up. The low end torque is sick, she justs grabs off the line and the backend sways a nice bit. I saw the tune removed the speed delimeter because I got up to about 135 and damn car kept pulling and I punked out and backed off the throttle. I could not believe the damn car kept pulling and accelerating with authority. I just need to see how gas mileage will be impacted now by driving with some common sense this week. But it is hard as hell now knowing what my Mark VIII can do now.

I have to admit I ran up on a 95 or 96 Impala SS last night off RT 26./Liberty Road in Baltimore city last night and I just took him off the line and chewed him a new one at the 3 stoplights we went at it. He finally rolled down his window after the 3rd stop light and said nice runs and he did not now Mark VIII's were that quick off the line. He said he gets that from Stangs, but did not see it coming from my Mark. He could have just not known how to really work that Impala SS, but it made me feel like the Xcalibrator 2 did it's job.

Nuff said.

The cost of the tuner and shipping was 379.99 and with the free USB cable. The really cool thing is that www.sctflash.com will be releasing a PC/Laptop based tuner software that will allow you even more control of tuning our Marks right through the laptop via Excalibrator X2. The software is of the same caliber as what I have seen on Speed tv that the guys used on project StinkRay (a restored corvette) and the last generation model Camaro SS.
