03 LS with Nav Radio. question, I've ONLY seen OEM ford plug and play sirius units (ebay about $300). The only way I've seen to do a nice integrated XM setup is via xm direct kit. Does anyone know if these work as well (from an integration standpoint) as the sirius units? ie all the onscreen functionality, controls, song display, etc....

AFAIK, only the OEM Sirius units will work like you're describing. Also, they'll only work with the '04 and newer units (with the SAT button), so that shouldn't be an issue for your unit.

the 03 nav unit will operate like the 04 units with a software upgrade (which I did)

On the up side..... NASCAR will be switching from XM to Sirius next year, so at least you'll get that! :)

I have the XM unit in my Cobra. It works flawlessly and has the screen displays and everything. This is with the CD6 radio...not the NAV unit. But you can check with the web sites...I'm betting it will work fine with the NAV unit.

I had XM before switching to Sirius and researched the XM Direct setup for the LS quite a bit. I was assured by the XM people that the XM Direct for Ford would use all of the displays and steering wheel controls. The only reason I switched to Sirius is that my son is a OTR driver and he wanted to try Sirius after using XM for 3 years. BTW XM direct was going to be about $100 less expensive than the Ford Sirius setup.

So is the verdict that the XM Direct kit will work in a similar fashion to the OEM Sirius kit??

The XM kit you have in your cobra, is it the XM Direct kit?

Damn beaups! I wish I could tell you! I bought it off eBay from a heck of a great guy. It consisted of two main parts and the proper cable. If I can find his link, I'll post it for you. But I think you're correct...it was the XM Direct kit plus the part to adapt it to Ford. Very slick and easy unit to install. On the satellite ready radio, it literally took me less than an hour to do.
