Is is possible to remove the hydraulic fan pump and replace it with another alternator to carry the load of the electric fan and aftermarket sound systems?

Sure it is, with some persistence anything can become reality.
Man discovered fire, created a wheel and later landed on the moon. Hell ... LS4ME landed planes for a while.

Might be some trial and error or some serious awkward modifications but why not, what stops you to find out. Well worth a write up!

Hmmmm..... Could that be why they fired me??? Not just the age requirement?? At least they're paying me ~66+% to stay home!!

I think Hite tossed it around a bit... He had trouble finding a spot on the accessory line to fit one, then getting it to play along...

I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I would THINK a secondary alternator would work fine outside the computer's system. There were issues with using a high output alternator because the computer would limit the current output to stock levels or turn on the charging warning light. It seems like having the secondary bypass the computer would avoid the problem, but the only way to find out would be too actually do it.

Unfortunately for us, Hire has moved onto bigger things with his Mark VIII and isn't as involved with modifying the LS, last I heard from him in April when I bought a set of Accel coil brackets

if you use a second alternator to power your amps and maybe an electric cooling fan only, then you should not have a problem. you would have to use a second battery and completely isolate that charging system from the factory charging system.the alternator would have to have an internal regulator, and it may add noise to the audio system. Im not sure.

on another note, I don't have a mark VIII but I am in the process of building a mark VIII engine to swap into the LSE. my mods have slowed down a little bit but only because I'm running out of things to do to a daily driver.

remember to build all one off parts in pairs ;)

Oh, whoops. My mistake. Next time I'll just let you speak for yourself haha

Not too sure how the PCM limits the alternator output since the voltage is the same for both stock and aftermarket HO alternators. Can someone explain how it works?

no way! lol

if you build a part and you need to replace it, it probably because its broke, now you can make it stronger and address any issues. THEN you start making more than one, just as long as one of each make its way this way!

its not the voltage, its the amperage. The PCM limits how much amperage the alternator puts out (in a nut shell)

...it was so we could do mine at the same time....shhhh its a secret

Same reason I still got all the parts for an 8.8" swap, minus the custom drive shaft, sitting in a closet. Not exactly a week-end project and my LS is my daily driver. :(

uh....maybe....why....who told you.....

because that would be the only reason I would be going to a 4.6... and you seem to be a smart guy! lol

just swapping in a NA 4.6 would be a whole lot of time, work, and money for little gain (not to mention the electrical nightmare). and its so much easier to bolt a blower on to a C head motor vs having to make something custom to bolt a blower on a B head motor.

on the other hand, a blown 4.6 would totally be worth it and would be what the LS should have been from the beginning!
