This is normal, as you would find if you just searched. The trans in 2000 to 2002 models will start in 2nd gear, unless you exceed 70% throttle, then it will kick down to first.

It isn't the master light switch, it is the bulb warning. It is telling you that you have a burned out exteriur bulb. If you had the V8 then the message center would also tell you which bulb it is.
