    Starting woes - Also....

:D I am going to learn not to argue with you guys. The whole reason I post on this forum is for answers, and then I go and doubt everything I read. As all of you know (and knew all along), it was the starter of course. I should have just accepted the obvious when I started getting more and more...

    Starting woes - Also....

Actually, I was thinking more along the line of disconnecting all of the lines going into the starter before hooking it up directly to the battery (sort of an installed bench test). I am just looking at testing the starter itself, so I would think I wouldn't need any connections between the...

    Starting woes - Also....

Sorry, I only have access to a computer at work. I have a cheap radio-shack meter, which has variable voltage settings (AC & DC) as well as a resistance setting. I am not an expert with the thing (I lost the instructions about 12 years ago), but if you tell me what to check, I can probably...

    Starting woes - Also....

The connections to the battery are good (I clean them with the wire brush on the Dremel regularly), but I am not so sure about the other end of the ground where it connects to the block. It is pretty much inaccessable. Is there any test I can use to see if the grounding cable is getting good...

    Starting woes - Also....

Would I do any harm if I tried hooking up the starter direct to the battery, say with jumper cables, just long enough to see if it would engage and turn? (this would identify any problem with the starter hot wire and ground). Wouldn't that pretty much narrow it down to a definite bad starter, or...

The solenoid. Is there any way I can prove whether or not it's the starter? Like I said, I need to put the wife back in this car so I can have my truck back, but I don't really have an extra $120, unless I can be sure it will fix the problem (then it will be worth it to be short of cash). I am...

It's not doing anything. No click, no buzz, nada. All of the other electrical components in the car work fine. By the way, I tried that tapping-the-solenoid thing again, and it didn't work a second time.

Even though the starter was not engaging at all (it engaged every time under test)? It could still be the starter? By the way, it's not even clicking again... The slow-turn over thing only lasted a few moments before it went silent on me again (even before I removed the starter, and is still...

This forum has been a great help to me. I replaced the entire front suspension on my '95 Mark VIII without any problems, thanks to various threads on this forum. Hopefully, I can get some help with a current confusing issue. First off, the starter appeared to start dragging, and the battery...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Ahhh, well. Back to the alignment shop again. At least (theoretically) this should be the last time I need an alignment for a while...........

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Hmmm. I think I know what which part you are talking about. Is it possible that I just got reeeeaaaaall lucky on this? The alignment is as perfect as I could imagine it - the steering wheel straightens out by itself coming out of a turn and it runs straight as an arrow at 70 mph on the freeway...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Keeping in mind that I never even looked at a front suspension (much less worked on one) before I did all of this work, bear with me for just one question: What the heck is a snail cam?

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Believe it or not, I didn't need an alignment when I put the lower control arms in. I had the alignment done when I did the strut-rod bushings (that little job really messed up the alignment), which was only about a week earlier (I had high hopes the bushings would correct my problems), but I...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Success! I want to thank everbody who helped me through my front suspension woes. I replaced the strut-rod bushings on the LCA side, which lessened, but did not cure my problems. The only thing left to replace was the lower control arms, so I picked up some Moogs and went to work. This fixed...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Yeah, I probably replaced the wrong ones (although they needed replaced anyway, as the bushings on the far side were real soft). So, it's possible that the bushings on the other side of the strut might be bad? (I assume you are referring to the ones where the strut attaches to the LCA, right?)...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

Done and done. Wasn't hard at all. I sprayed everything down for two days before I did the job with PC Blaster (some WD-40 like substance that the guys at the auto parts store recommended). Although I had to disconnect a few things to get the new ones on (didn't have to break loose the LCA ball...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

You got it. I won't be trying to tackle this until this weekend, though - but I'll let you know on Monday how it comes out (or if I have given up all hope).

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

MeThinks I am as ready as I am going to get to change these, although you guys got me a'fearin those mounts. Think I'll use the ramps, first, until I get everything broke loose - then put it on the jack-stands. I have my 1/2" breaker bar, and that ever-present back-up (a neighbor who is an...

Help! I'm going around the world to the left!

You guys are lifesavers!! The strut rod bushings are shot (the wheel was moving forward and back several inches). Soooo, I have the task lined up for the weekend. Any tips, or is it a straightforward job (this coming from someone who had to ask what a strut rod bushing was)? Also, I noticed when...
