I have two related problems with my 2005 Navigator. (1) the key will not come out of the ignition switch, and (2) the rear hatch will not open electronically (must do it manually). I'm pretty sure both of these problems are caused by bad connections in the larger junction connector that is...
Sorry for the late reply. I finally took the car to the dealer for an oil change, etc. -- I asked them to update the computer so that the "suspension system off" light doesn't come on (i.e., set the computer as if the vehicle had a conventional spring suspension). They said no problem, but...
Still plan to do it in next few weeks when I get an oil change. 04 and 05 should be the same as model didn't change between those two years. I'll still post results.
I didn't mess with the fuse - just turned the system off with the switch at the back of the vehicle. Message comes on that the system is off every time I start the car, but will have the dealer reset the computer to show no airbags when I go in for a oil change in a few weeks. Then all I'll...
Threw one of the cam followers on my '05 Navigator driving home from Wisconsin last year -- happened just off the interstate in the middle of Illinois. Fortunately, there was a small Ford Lincoln dealer there who towed the car in and quickly found the problem. In any event, it meant that the...
Will do. There are a variety of forum streams on the subject, but they read more like guys arguing over what wire to cut, etc. The Unity kit that I bought had the reference to having the dealer change the computer (even had instructions for how to do it). I'm going in for a dealer oil change...
AGREE! Just the peace of mind is worth a lot in itself -- I'm no longer paranoid going on long trips, worrying that something will happen with the suspension. Noisy compressor?? The replacement that I bought from Rockauto was twice as loud as the OEM unit. But I had no trouble knowing when...
My Nav has over 175K on it, and I've been dealing with air suspension problems for a while. Last year I replaced the front air bags struts with after-market units from Suncore (they're okay) - also new solenoids just to be safe. Then the compressor went out - replaced that this spring...
Just a further follow-up...
I found that the lower strut nut actually requires a deep 30M socket, given the length of the bolt through the tightened nut. The nut on the tie-rod end requires a deep 20M socket -- deep for the same reason. You might get by with 1-13/16" and a 13/16" SAE...
Thanks for the quick reply. I think I can use a large crescent wrench to hold the bolt head, but will need to get the larger socket for the nut.
Thanks also for the video. I've watched the separate video from Strutmasters several times, but they never mention the size of tools or hardware...
I have new front airbag struts to install on my '05 Navigator. Noticed that my socket set was not big enough to handle the lower strut bolt and nut. Anyone know what size socket and box-end wrench that bolt/nut takes? Thanks.
I've got a 2005 Navigator that's starting to exhibit air suspension problems in cold weather. I've read a lot about converting the air bags to coil springs, but haven't seen much written in the forum on the subject. I'm wondering what is the best conversion kit to use. I see a lot of ads by...
The indicator light is out on the gear selector cover on my center shift lever console. Any thoughts on how to remove the chrome bezel. I was going to try and pry it off, but thought I'd check first in case I would break a clip or something. Thanks.
I have a 2005 Navigator that has developed a "klunking" sound when I go over bumps. My first thoughts were worn bushings or a loose tailpipe hanger, however, my local Ford dealer said the only thing they could find was that the intermediate steering shaft was loose and wanted over $500 to fix...
My 2005 Navigator has 110K miles on it, and I'm starting to hear "clunking" from the front and rear suspension when I'm on rough pavement that I believe are simply worn bushings. My local service guy said he would simply "lubricate" them next oil change. My experience with bad bushings never...
I have a 2005 Navigator with Navigation. I believe the DVD for the GPS is dated 2003. There is a ton of Navigation DVDs advertised on eBay, however, I don't know what versions or part numbers are compatible with my navigation unit. I could get the latest DVD from Navteq, but hate to pay $200...
Has anyone considered simply using a FM transmitter? I have a 2005 Navigator and am looking for a FM transmitter that I can plug my MP3 or portable video player into. I did try one I found at Target, but it didn't work. The radio antenna is at the back of the car in the rear quarter window...
I have a 2005 Navigator with the same am/fm/cd/nav unit as you and also have the AM static problem. The Lincoln service guy just scratches his head when I tell him about it.
On a recent trip I noticed something really weird. With the AM radio on (and lots of static), I opened the rear...
