    Clock Spring.....

I went the rebuild route when I fixed the steering column ujoint to the rack. It malfunctioned again about a year later and in a fit of anger I just grabbed the wheel and pulled. I'm still baffled by what that accomplished, but it has worked fine ever since. I did turn off the auto adjust for...

1997 Mark VIII 6 Speed build

Thumbs up for making the Mark you want. I cannot even get my head around all you must have to consider to install a manual transmission. Mine is the same red.

U1201(J1850) Invalid Data for A/C Clutch

What a great tip abairth. You are an example of how we have been able to keep these great cars on the road, while still having some dignity. Driving an old beat up wreck isn't on my agenda, as I have always taken great pride that everything works on my 27 year old car.

    Melted and Blown 4.6

Nobody is even curious as to this result? I guess I am also guilty of abandoning the forum as you all have educated me enough that I am able to keep my Mark on the road with institutional knowledge. My car is a late 1998 and as such is now 27 years old. What a testament to Ford that my car still...

    Melted and Blown 4.6

I was watching the "I Do Cars" Youtube site when I saw a post concerning a 4.6 teardown. He showed that it came from a late Aviator (03?) and went to work. It had the astonishing condition of having all four pistons at close to top dead center when removing the cylinder heads. I have never seen...

    Sup y'all!

I am glad to see everyone. Unity, you are my hero!! The cars you list are all vehicles that cause me flashbacks and nightmares. But when they're on and working right? Wow, what fun.

    Second Life

My "affair" is with a '97 XK8 that I found much in the same condition my Lincoln was in when I first saw her. Under a carport, silently rusting in the Canadian winter with seven year old tags. But, it had a timing belt guide upgrade and only 70k miles so I threw the dice. I was lucky in that all...

    Second Life

I am going to reincarnate my '98 tomorrow. After a fling with a younger prettier Jaguar, I'm going back to old reliable. I have taken out the plugs and juiced the cylinders, installed a new battery and have all four corners up on jackstands to take stress off the airbags. Any advice is welcome...

    Sup y'all!

My profile says Aug 2010. So, my first Mark- a 95 was purchased at that time. Did I have fun making that car right. learned a lot and everyone here should be paid as I saved mucho dinero. Now, I'm on my 3rd. Or 4th. A '98 LSC slicktop that has been bullet proof. Watch out - now I've jinxed it...

    Chug-a-lug

I have sourced 8 different coils from a fellow sufferer who claims the car he got them from is operating on all eight at all times. So next will be to install said replacements along with new spark plugs and a new fuel filter. The plugs and filter are less than 15k miles old but in for a penny...

    Chug-a-lug

I agree that I should have never left home w/o all my required tools. Sometimes I am lulled to sleep by an extended period of smooth running. Today I am driving (slowly) into the local town who assures me they can test for me. I had no idea a cylinder balance test was possible through the car...

That is spotless. And an eastern car to boot! It appears you and I share the "more than two doors is a waste" theory.

    Chug-a-lug

My beautiful and faithful highway star has decided I'm not worthy. I'm stuck in the foothills of Alberta with very limited access to anything and cannot get any web response save our old friend LVC. To wit; 1998 LSC w 157k miles with all maintenance up to date. I cannot get to a scanner but the...

The real problem was the lubricant I used on the operator. I'm not a clear thinker after a dew toddies.

    Gen II steering column snafu

I gave up too soon. All went well after a few hints from someone who has already done one. Just remember that both ends of the steering shaft will slowly extend until they fit.

    Trouble changing electric column

I found out the column will slide out to meet the connector. I also had to pull out the lower part to meet the rack. It all came together and now I have a tight column.

    Customer reviews, Arnott or Strutmasters

You know, after all these years of finger-f#*+ing around, we should have come up with a method of replacing this weakness, even if it involves an outside mount. Here we are 20 years since the NEWEST one is built and we cannot overcome this problem. There is room in the wheelwell, so lets take...
