update - new battery fixed all my problems up. Freaking autozone brand batterys go out almost as much as their alternators... got a motorcraft so hopefully this doesnt happen again

bufordtpisser - good point, the car was just idleing. I'm trying a new battery, got a motorcraft BXT65-650 coming in tomorrow and I'm gonna clean the connections. Hopefully the new battery fixes my problems...

Ok, my battery seems to drain over time. I tested the alternator with a multimeter and it's at ~13.9V. The car runs great with a jumpstart, but it seems to drain after a few days if resonably charged. I don't think any lights or accessories are staying on... Also I just let the car run for...

My 94 mark VIII appears to be getting much worse gas mileage than it used to. I would like to do some much needed maintenence to it, such as change the spark plugs and cables, new air and fuel filter, and what else? and what should I do first? I don't drive very much, mostly short city trips...

Yep, WD-40 worked! It took a day or two before it started working though. What a simple solution, and my car had that message for a few years and I never tried to do anything b/c I thought it would be tough to fix... I'm glad I found this site. Thanks!
