Got my Blackstone labs oil analysis back.
I've only had my Lincoln for the last 20k miles. It's had the rattle since I purchased it.
Any suggestions on silicon, copper and iron?
BTW, the timer on the bottom of the chart starts when I press "record" not when I turn on the key. I'll show another view with engine RPM as it's easy to see when I start the vehicle.
I'll add a flush additive today. I have to draw a small oil sample for analysis first. I'm overdue for an oil change. I'll use the recommended oil type weight with one quart trans fluid for a month or so and then switch to rotella syn blend.
The scanner does show one cam timing measurement...
Great points on the intake vs exhaust cams. I wouldn't have thought of that or the oil pressure.
I can monitor oil pressure. But, it's what the computer thinks it is and may not be true.
I'll give it a go and see what I can capture.
I don't recall the exact cam timing I was measuring last...
So, yesterday I had what I thought was a coil go bad, rough idle. I hooked up my PC driven Autoenginuity to the LS for the first time. I found that I can measure/read cam timing. I'm curious to see if I can use this scanner to show a story behind the rattle at start up.
Anyone ever try this?
Wow! thanks for taking the time to summarize.
Edit: a bit of research shows the cam phasers to be a big issue on the 5.4 motors. Google "ford cam phaser" for more fun reading
My engine will rattle on start up in the warm weather after sitting for 12+ hours. It will not rattle at all in the cold weather.
I haven't spent alot of time under my LS. Can the oil pump be replaced with the engine in the car?
not good at all.
Are you using full synthetic Mobile 1?
I am because I picked up the oil and then read the owners manual... The manual states a syn blend is required. I doubt it would make much of a difference though.
I'll be due for an oil change in a month or two. I'll certainly send a...
I use Blackstone Labs for my diesel truck. No complaints. I know some folks think it's junk science but to me it's peace of mind to send a sample every few oil changes. I plan to run the truck as long as possible.
Google them and send an email. They'll send you a kit (free) to get them a sample.
new guy here. Just asking if this is not an advisable option?

Their site seems to imply one could order the new solenoid bushings from them?
Testing the solenoids seems straight forward
Or another vid showing cleaning the solenoids?
Another knocking LS here. 04 with 172k miles. Don't know how long this has been happening. I purchased the car this way a few months ago (not being informed of the noise) and also came with the extra delayed shift option...
Mine will make the knocking noise for only a few seconds if the vehicle...
