    Some Observations Upon Converting Struts

After a few months of driving on the struts/springs, I still like them very much. However, I believe the used rear struts came off a flood car (i.e. Katrina), because when the temp is sub-freezing here for more than a day at a time the left rear strut freezes up solid as a rock! I recommend...

    Some Observations Upon Converting Struts

Mine rides great on the new springs (well, used springs). Very calm, smooth ride. And much cheaper than replacing the air ride bags/struts (I bought 4 slightly-used struts/springs for the price of one air ride strut - $249 shipped). Also, there are lots of options for replacements if I...

2 Front Air Struts from 94 Continental

The conventional struts are great, no annoying compressor to listen to, and no waiting for the back end to "pump up." The car rides very well, smooth over some very bumpy road here in town. I'm happy with my decision to convert. By the way, the struts are sold.

    Some Observations Upon Converting Struts

By some quirk of fate, El Niño, or Global Warming, we had temps of nearly 70° here in Maine this past weekend (not bad for the first week of January) and it was perfect for working on the car. The rear struts were nearly as joyous as the fronts. Found this website with some handy photos...

2 Front Air Struts from 94 Continental

Bump for update: Connector (actuator) has been replaced on the strut with the broken wires, and the price is now $75 for the pair plus shipping or local pick-up.

2 Front Air Struts from 94 Continental

My 94 Continental had one bad rear strut and a weak compressor from constantly re-filling the system so I decided to replace all four with conventional struts. I have for sale the front two air struts. The car only has 87K miles, and, according to the date on the struts, they were replaced...

Do You Hate Your Digital Dash?

I was looking on eBay last night and saw a '95 Taurus with a digital dash that looks to be the same form as our dash. It wasn't lit up, but it looks the same as the 94 Conti. If nobody has tried, I might have to invest the $25 or so in a conventional cluster just to experiment. Speed...

Do You Hate Your Digital Dash?

As I'm slowing bringing this diamond-in-the-rough back to life, I'm deciding that I really do not like the digital dash. I had the same thing in my old Chrysler Town & Country van and grew used to it, but after having cars with a conventional "needle" speedometer I much prefer that. In my...

    Some Observations Upon Converting Struts

After nearly three weeks, my struts arrived (bought on eBay on Dec. 4, they arrived Dec. 28 - apparently by Donkey Express). Unfortunately, the shipper screwed up and sent only the fronts, so I attacked that first (rears will be here next week, I'm assured). First problem right off the bat...

    Transmission or CV?

    Good advice, Brady. Thanks

    Transmission or CV?

Well, there was a third option I hadn't thought of. When I purchased the car, I checked the fluids (as I should have) - oil was nice and clear, transmission fluid was the proper color and didn't smell burned. However, I didn't read the fine print on the tranny dipstick: "check when hot, car...

    Transmission or CV?

Hmmm.. it doesn't do it turning right. I took off yesterday under rather hard acceleration turning right, and no slip whatsoever. I found a transmission service manual on eBay. We'll see what some actual troubleshooting yields.

    Transmission or CV?

I have a new-to-me 94 Continental, 87,000 miles, with a new engine 16K ago. Starting off under low to medium acceleration (haven't tried it with more than moderate acceleration), I get a bit of a slip, but a mild shudder with it, that goes away when I let off the gas. I can then accelerate...

    96 Cont. Brakes?

The compressor for the Air Ride system sounds much like an Anti-Lock modulator on Full-Tilt Boogie. Could just be your compressor topping off the airbags.

`95 Conti Air Ride Suspention problem

I replaced a rear wheel bearing yesterday. Part was $49 at V.I.P., Pep Boys and AutoZone were a bit more. Bearing is VERY easy to replace - took less than an hour. The most time was spent looking for a socket large enough to take off the big bolt on the spindle. Incidentally, my bearing...

    Air Ride Behavior (with malfunction)

I found the leak - it's in the bag on the left rear. When the bag is semi-folded (at the "park" position) the air just runs right out. Upon inspection, I found the other three bags at nearly the same condition, but they're not leaking yet. Found a set of conversion springs/struts...

    Air Ride Behavior (with malfunction)

Forgive me if this has been posted already - I'm a newbie and did do a search and read many air suspension threads but couldn't find the answer. I just purchased a 94 Conti (87K miles, new engine 16K ago) with problems in the back end. The front is up and stays up. The back is low when...
