Okay guys I'm literally at my limits here with this engine ping I have, it's driving me absolutely insane because I can't figure it out to save my life. It's the bane of my existence right now. Here's what's happening, after the car is warmed up, around 1,500-2,000 rpms I get a ping from the engine, I ran top engine cleaner thinking it could be a carbon deposit on the cylinder head and it didn't make it any better but while I was driving the car while it was clearing out the engine, the ping was absolutely MUCH LOUDER and then went back to normal when it was cleared, I can see the knock sensor is working. I have changed all 8 coils along with the spark plugs and I even went as far as changing the egr valve in hopes it wasn't operating fully. Ohh and it doesn't light the check engine light, even when I had a slight misfire from time to time but also when I did, it would ping like crazy much louder then when it wasn't missing. So please someone help me because my next step is removing the cylinder heads to check and clean off the piston heads and I seriously, truthfully would rather jump off a cliff then do that so please someone help a brother out here or at least point me in a direction other then the one I'm traveling in

Take it to Ford and pay the 60-75 bucks for diagnostic. They should be able to pinpoint the problem. These years seemed to have timing change tensioner problems from what I've heard here. I'd take it to Ford if it was mine. don-ohio :)^)

Are you positive that it is ping and not valve adjustment?
Are you buying 91+ gasoline?
I had a pinging problem once on my LS. I was getting gas at two or three different stations at the time. I came to realize that I had the problem only when getting gas from one of those stations. I suspected that maybe the station was selling 89 as 92 (another station here was caught doing that). I had the state come out and test the gas from the station. They said the octane was correct, but that there was a lot of water in the gas. I stopped getting gas there.

60-75 !?!??! Mine told me 127 for a diagnosis or are you just speaking on an OBDII Diagnostic?

It was 65 a few months ago,KidL. They checked a transmission electrical problem I had and found the problem. don-ohio

Lucky you. It was $100 here several years back. I'm sure it's more now.

Yeah,Joe.....one thing about down here in poor welfare-ridden Appalachia is they can't get big city prices.Ha! don-ohio :)^)

Dealer prices vary by area, Kid. In Tulsa, last year I think Lincoln wanted 85 an hour. When I lived in Maryland 20 years ago, I think dealer prices were about 110 an hour. Probably more like 200 an hour now. Any large coastal metro area is going to be more expensive than smaller areas because the cost of living is so much higher.

I was just talking about the diagnostic charge, not the hourly labor charge. They'll generally hook up the equipment to test engine or transmission for problems for about 65 bucks here.If you let them fix the problem, sometimes they remove the diagnostic charge. don-ohio :)^)

As you can see ... apparently it's cheaper to live in fairy-tale land.

I have been to about 8 different stations and each a different company and only use 91, (that's the highest grade in ny) I actually used an octane booster for **** and giggles and I believe it made a difference, to some extent I believe that the ping is quieter. I don't notice it as much so it could be slight carbon build up causing the compression to be higher I'm going to run top engine cleaner in the motor one more time and see how much of a difference it makes this time around
