Well guys, here is another story of a LS overheating. I bought the car used in 05 with 44000 miles. About one year into owner ship it appeared to run hot so I took it too the local dealership. They replaced one of the fans and the problem was fixed? or was it? About 5 months later overheating again. This time they replaced the thermostat that lasted for about 3 days and then they said it was an air pocket. Well all has been ok untill about 4 weeks ago. Overheating again. This time I went to a friend at a local Firestone and he replaced the thermostat and it did not fix the problem. His guy said he did not have the necessary information to tell what the error codes were and I should take it to a dealer. They got my car at the dealer and said my #4 coil was causing the car to "think" it was overheating.I paid about $200 to find out my car was stupid. But if the coil need replacing.... Meanwhile the overheating problem is still there. They claim that they checked to see if there was another air pocket, if a head gasket was blown and if the fans were ok. All check out ok. So after all this I go to pickup my car and limp back to the house to find out that they had put on the order ticket. Must start with the thermostat, customer has declined. So did my service adviser lie to me that they checked all of the above or did they check these things and he was only saying do not replace anything until the thermostat is replaced. Any of you guys have any ideal what my next move should be?

I had a alot of problems with with lincoln overheatinf I had to keep fighting and taking back to the dealer the changed everything before the checked the heads found out I had blown heads so they fixed finally and thats been ok but now i have a charging problem...

ok so does the car run smooth at idle and under load? it will take a pretty noticable misfire for the car to over heat from that alone.

once the cars warm open the hood are the fans on?

hows the oil look in the car is it getting milky? are you leaving any coolant puddles where you park it?

I've had the car at the dealer and "I'm told it is no milky look in the oil, the fans are working ok and there is no misfiring.

Check the cylinder head temp sensors... one could be faulty. AT least that's what was wrong with mine.

Im going to assume this is a v8.
If so, sounds like an air bubble is still in there. sometimes air in the cooling system can be a bear to get out. Only solution is multiple bleeding attempts. I went through the same thing. My last bleed 4 weeks or so ago appears to have finally solved the issue.

My overheating issue was also random. Start car in morning, and 10 mins later, I would hear that familiar fan roar from under the hood. Within another minute, the needle would begin to rise. I would turn the heat on full blast (fan and temp) for about 40 seconds, and that seemed to be enough to "burp" the stuck bubble, and let the coolant flow freely. I could then turn the heat/climate control off, and be fine for the rest of the drive, with the temp needle returning back to normal. Note that I did NOT have to keep the fan on/temp on high in order to keep the engine cool, I simply had to give it a quick "burp", then all was normal. Classic symptoms of a bubble in the line.

The bleed procedure is very easy. Its on this site. Find it, bleed it thoroughly. Then see if that helps. If not, do it again. May take 3-4 GOOD attempts, following the procedure to a t, before it's fixed.
