03 and up LS guys

I tried it this morning and it seems to have remapped the throttle-by-wire... feels stronger, like I have to press the pedal down 1/2" less than before to get the same power as before. Shift points didn't seem to change, still holds high gears too long, etc.

My shifting changed in the form of it not being in 5th gear by 25-30 mph. It seems to stay in 2nd and 3rd a little longer longer. But yes I also noticed less gas pedal needed to accelerate, perhaps that is causing my shifts to be a little different?

then why even bother making the comment in the first place?

Why did I bother making the comment in the first place? Are you slightly retarded, or full on Short bus Command retarded? Please tell me if you are, I really don't like picking on "special" kids.

Let me get this straight to make sure I understand you:

You asked if this TCU reset I posted fixed some crappy shifting your transmission was having, correct?

Mine shifts hard from time to time, I am wondering if this will fix it.

Yup... looks like so far, I am correct.

Seeing how I don't have an LS and no one actually tried this "trick" before I posted about it (at least no one that's mentioned it before), how in hell should "we" know if it's going to fix your craptacular shifting? Hmmm? Tell me. Go on. Do it. Tell me.

Can't? Then why don't you STFU and quit acting like a princess. Read a whole thread before posting idiotic questions. Ok? Ok.

Was it REALLY that hard to try it before posting that dumb question? I mean, seriously. Did you even read the whole thread, or just the fist post and decided to just ask away?

Is there a TSB for your shifting problem? Did you search? No? Well then, why don't you do use the search button?

Now, sod off!

/rant

What is it with some people? You show them something they didn't know and they still want answers like they're owed answers.

wow really? do you get off being an internet tough guy?

I asked a simple question no need to get all pissy over it, just because I can't go out and test it means I'm retarted... thanks

its real simple, I wanted to know if that would fix hard shifts or if hard shifts mean something else. In fact I am going to try this later today after work.

Sorry, if I am being a 'princess' but I don't see the need for the bad attitude

wow really?

You seem surprised...? Why is that? Because your smart ass comment backfired?

do you get off being an internet tough guy?

I don't know... do you get off being a jackass? Again, let me see if I understand:

You ask an idiotic question, and when you're told to pull your head out of your ass and use those short bus command brain cells you inherited from God only knows whom or what, you call someone an "internet tough guy" because he told you how things are? Awwww... was the man on the Internet mean to you?

Do you want your mommy?

I asked a simple question no need to get all pissy over it,

No, you asked a question that showed you didn't even read the damned thread. You were too busy with work to be bothered to read a few posts that may have answered your question. Because hey... you a busy kinda playa, right? Crack'a please!

just because I can't go out and test it means I'm retarted... thanks

No. Just because you can't go out there ant try the "reset" while you're at work means you're working. I'm cool with that. That don't make you a retard. . What I'm not cool with is your snobby attitude when I suggested you go try it.

How in holy hell was I supposed to know you were working? And if you were working, WTF are you doing surfing the internet? Are you being paid to surf the internet?

Cliff notes: You're not only a jackass, but you take the honor of being one of the very few retarded jackasses in my book. That's good for an extra gold star, by the way.

Ok, name calling as well... that's cool.

let me start over, I am sorry I offended you, but let me get one thing clear. Not once does it say anything in your post about hard shifting, I read a few posts already and from what I read this trick will have your transmission re-learn your driving style. Yes? Ok most modern cars can do the same thing if you disconnect the battery but this trick is more convientient. Thank you for the post. I did this with my Sable when I had it, good stuff. What I asked was about my car occasionally hard shifting, I was not sure if having the transmission RE-LEARNING my style of driving would fix this? Better?

Ok and yes I get breaks at work and during down time I can surf the net is that bad?

dude before you continue down this road that your heading with the frog, let me help you out,

NO, hard shifts tend to point to something more serious. this thread has to do with resetting and then relearning your driving style. which should only affect when the car shifts, and what gear it pulls when down shifting. harsh engagement would make me think that there is something wrong maybe like a solenoid or something.

since the car remembers how you tend to drive, none of the things that it is monitoring would make it shift harder due to what it remembers from you

Ok, name calling as well... that's cool.

Cool kids do that.

Offended me? Kid, you ain't even getting close to me starting to be offended.

No, what I said was "It MAY work" (well, something to that effect, anyway. Not quite motivated enough to go look at my original post). But it seems that it does work as advertised.

Convenient. And yes, it is.

Thank you for the post.

Welcome.

And which part of "I'm not even sure if this trick works on an LS" (or something like that) from my original post eluded you? If I don't know if it even works, how in holy blazes of hell am I supposed to know if it will fix your harsh shifting?

I don't know. Is it shifting better? You didn't report back. Instead, you chose to make the n00b mistake of getting baited into an argument by and with me.

Ok and yes I get breaks at work and during down time I can surf the net is that bad?

Is it bad? Only if you're not a paying member of my midget porn sites. If you are, then by all means, go for it.

That is why I asked, I figured as much but since it only happens rarely I figured I would ask anyway.

I am still going to give it a shot to see if it helps it behave better, I also converted it already to an SST

did it to mine the other day and the shifts are much smoother IMO. but then again i could just be making it up lol i do feel that it helped though it definitely didn't hurt anything.

You still haven't tried it? :D

ha ha ha

I did it but I haven't really had a chance to 'drive' it yet due to rain (and lousey traffic). Once it clears up I am going to do it again and take it out on the highway see if I can start feeling a difference

Just did this... worked great! :D

The car feels a lot more responsive! :)

Not not sure how the original owner drove but the transmission shift points always felt like crap!

Maybe a mod could clean up this tread and make it a sticky or a tech article!

if the mods spent all day cleaning up our threads then they would have any time to do anything else.

I don't know if this trick will work for the LS with the drive by wire, but it seems to work on a lot of other DBW equipped cars:

Turn ignition to ON. I don't know if this will be Accessories or full on RUN (without starting) position. It seems to vary.

Step on Accelerator Pedal and push it to the floor for 5 seconds

Turn ignition to OFF, leave key inserted

Release accelerator pedal

Don't do anything for at least 2 minutes. Don't open doors, windows, don't play with any electronics (though, I wouldn't think changing radio stations would affect it).

This sequence supposedly resets the transmission control unit (TCU) and forces it to re-learn your driving style.

Again, I have heard it works on just about any DBW equipped car (with an automatic transmission, of course), but I can only vouch for it on Mercedes transmissions. For all I know, the LS doesn't even have a "learning" TCU though. But you should feel an increase in power. No, not from the engine, but rather due to how the torque limiters in the TCU deal with the power the engine is putting into the transmission.

Please let me know if any of you try it. I'm curious to see if the LS TCU can be "reset" this way.

Of course, you won't be (or at least shouldn't be) screwing anything up. Much as I am an ass, I would NEVER purposely steer any of my fellow LvC members astray.

im going to try disconnecting the battery method first. should i do both or just the positive/negative?
thanks

did you do negative or positive?

Always disconnect the negative first, and reconnect the negative last. In this case, the negative only.

What problem are you expecting this to solve? I expect that you will be disappointed. If there is any improvement, it will probably be short lived.

I was researching about harsh shifts that occurs with the lincoln ls while accelerating. Some people said they did the disconnecting of the battery terminal, or turning the key to ACC and pressing the acceleration pedal to the floor for 5 seconds.

Thanks

Im new and not sure if im doing this right. I just got an 02 ls v6. Like the car so far but it needs help. New front seats, stereo, door molding both sides and the list goes on. Does anyone know where i can get what i need without robba bank?ing

You are posting about a 1st gen LS on a thread about different problems with a 2nd gen LS. You would do much better to start your own thread.

Go to: Lincoln LS
and click on the big orange button that says "Post New Thread"

BTW, unfortunately you bought the wrong car if you expect to get it back into good shape and keep it that way for cheap. It may be a $500 car now, but it was a $40K + car new, and parts costs still reflect that.
