03 LS Sport - ETC Failsafe mode

Using the VIN lookup link it says the production date was 25/11/2002. And it says it has traction control with IVD.

That's AdvanceTrac. The part numbers (for AdvanceTrac) should be correct for your production date. I wonder if the previous owner put the wrong module in?
 
It could well be! The guy I bought it from said that he didn't know anything about cars...anyways I wonder if having the wrong module in it would explain the behavior/failure? I have attached a picture I just snapped of the module in the car, just removed it from the pump assembly for clarity.

Looking at a used part, but have another question: will a module from a 03, 04, and 05 work (obviously one with the AdvanceTrac)? Or does it have to be from that specific year?
 
AFAIK, it has to be one of the part numbers that I listed. It looks like some from 2004 and 2005 will work, but not from 2006. You need to make sure it is one of the three part numbers I listed.

Well guys, happy to report that after crawling thru the local U-Pull-It for a couple hours, I was able to grab a module with IVD. I popped it in, ran the IVD calibration procedures, and now have no lights on and speedometer is working great! Pulled all codes, with just the P0108 from the bad EGR showing up. I'll be replacing that in the near future. Car drives great now!

I'd like to thank everyone that helped me out with this, especially joegr. You guys saved the day here.
 
seems like I need to move to Oceanside for LS parts. :cool: They are kinda scarce where i live... even thought it's not that far from where they were built.

There were probably 10 LS's in the one yard I went to. Perhaps it's due to the large amount of horrible drivers here: lots of money + bad drivers = good junkyards!
 
Bonus ... our yards local to me don't see much LS'es at all. Once in a blue moon.
Do have the advantage of two yards that post daily of new inventory coming in, which has been handy so far.

Yah I grabbed a center console cover when I was there as well. Hinge and latch had broken on the old one. One of the cars there had drilled and slotted rotors, they were a bit too rusty for my taste, or else I'd have grabbed them too!
 
Hey guys hope everyone is well! So after driving the car the last 3-4 weeks since replacing the ABS module and EGR, had no issues until last Friday. A check transmission message appeared on the MC and started experiencing some very strange shifting (transmission seems locked to 2nd or 3rd gear). I pulled the following codes: P0732, P0735, and P0775, along with a U1041 from the IC. What do you guys think/recommend? Solenoid pack in transmission?
 
Maybe, but it could be something more serious, like a broken servo. Anyway, real diagnosis required.
 
Is there a service procedure I should be looking at? Or just take it to a transmission shop? I haven't done a lot of work on transmissions, but if there are more diagnosis procedures I should do, I'd be happy to give them a try and report back!

You know, I should really try searching the forum for the fault codes before I post....I'll try doing some of the pin-point tests you recommended to other users. :)
 
Hi guys just a quick update. I finally got around to working on the LS, pulled the transmission and look what i found:

I think I may have found the culprit. Congrats to Joegr for correctly guessing a broken servo.

Hey guys just a recap of what I did to repair the transmission. I did a complete teardown and inspection on it, installing new high energy bands and new clutch packs. I also installed a Transgo shift kit and did the servo bore sleeve repair. On the solenoid pack I did resistance tests on the coils, everything came back within the factory measurements so I left that alone. This was my first attempt at a transmission repair/rebuild, and I have to say it wasn't as difficult or as complicated as I was imagining. The car is shifting great now, and I think it's about as bulletproof as you can make these transmissions. All done for about $400 in parts, and a few evenings of working on it. Thanks again for the help!
