out of no where i start up the ls and it doenst want to stay running. once its been warmed up a little its better. Im pretty sure i need a new battery...ant ideas

Why do you think it needs a new battery? Are there any other symptoms you could give us? For instance, after it dies are you able to start it right back up?

yeah I can start it back up...but i thought it needed a batt because it needs jumped when its real cold out. also, it may have a ground issue because when I would have to hump it in the could i would have to use a heat gun to warm up the wires by the batt. then it would turn over...but its warmer here now

Yes, you've got some sort of electical problem. If you are in Columbus, OH it isn't cold. Take a look at some of the previous threads and you can see examples of how cold it really gets and LSs in those climates work fine. Pektel would be happy to chime in I'm sure.

Sounds like you might have a few different problems adding up. What year and engine?

also, as im driving...if I turn on the heat or anything..like a power draw..it starts to mess up worse

I've started my car in as cold of weather as -25 F without issue. Well, it does take a little to turn over, but it has always started. Never dies after either. Have you taken a voltmeter to your battery to check voltage while it's idling? Maybe something alternator related?

Tighten the main electrical connections. If the battery is the factory original, then it's due for replacement. If it's not OEM, you really should put the correct battery in.
Note that your alternator may be damaged by this point too.

What could be wrong is resistance in your ground wire caused by salt, water, etc. What you could do is first take the car to your local auto parts store and have them test the battery.. Start there.. Then take it to your local repair shop and ask them to do a current draw test. Somewhere to start at least..
