So I bought LS and was detailing the heck out of it with the radio going all day. Now the battery is dead like completely dead and I managed to lock my only set of keys in the trunk.

My question how can I get into the trunk through the car if the button does not work? Seems like a bad design to have the backseat release in the trunk....

Anyway thanks for the help!

GOOOOOOOOD LUCK!!! This happened to me once. Got a locksmith to open the door, then disassembled the rear seat.

Can I take my VIN # to the dealer and have a key cut??? Seems to me I have heard taht somehwere before... could I have them cut it on a regular key since I only need to get into the trunk?

Oh yea my doors are open thank god! how hard is it to take the back seat apart?

Others have used a small screwdriver at the top of the split seat back and released the seat back.

Seat release in the trunk makes it valet proof.

Other than using the key in the trunk lock the release is electric and with a dead battery it will not work, no mechanical lever on a LS.

I was once told that some of those battery packs used to jump a car can plug into your cigarette lighter. OR if you do not have one put 12v into the cigarette lighter, should have more than enough power to pop the trunk.

As long as you don't have the valet lock-out enabled, this is the best idea of all. I got one of those inexpensive Black & Decker jump start units that plug into the cigarette lighter/power point just because having the battery in the trunk makes it a bit more inaccessible. (The trade-offs, battery longevity and weight balance, are well worth it, IMHO.)

IIRC, the unit I got was under $30 at WalMart, but I got it some time back...

And after you do that, get yourself another two keys! Have the dealer program one for you, then you can use that one and the one you already have to program the other.

A neighbor had this done for his pickup, but that was about 20 years ago. We discussed this in a thread not too long ago, but, IIRC, the verdict was that this is no longer an option--but I'm far from certain about that. You might try searching and see if you can find it...

+1 Except I'll add you might want them to do more than one. In addition to the key I use, plus the one on my girlfriend's keychain, I have 2 MORE keys sitting in a box in my room. That way I always have 2 programmed keys to use if I or my girlfriend lose one.

I would use the screwdriver to get the latch behind the back seat headrest, search around I think somebody even posted a photo of it

You can but it is not the dealer that cuts the key. They will have to order it pre-cut from Ford, so it takes a few days to get there.
ford doesn't have pre cut keys, yet. some dealers can do it in house if they have the machine BUT it has to be the dealer the veh was purchased at new and usually you need to bring a few forms of id, the one i work at can get the code then we will send the code to the local locksmith, he cuts a non pats key then sends it back then we copy that onto a pats key. your best bet is to call the local dealer and ask

wow I can't believe all the help i have recieved so quickly. I looked at the pics for triggering the latch on the back seat with a coat hanger or screw driver but thinking I was going to damage something I just ran up to wally word and picked up one of those b&D battery boosters that plugs in to the ciggy lighter. It's charging now but I will let you all know how it works out.

Hell Yea!!! The battery booster worked!!! I only let the thing charge for an hour and it worked like a charm!!! I never would have thought of this on my own thanks again for all the input!!! Next stop the lincoln dealer to get bent for a couple of new sets of keys...75 bucks WTF?!?!?! Then on to autozone to get my codes read!

You can probably save some money if you only get one key from the dealer. Get another from a locksmith or fleaBay, and have a locksmith cut it for you--if you have two programmed keys, you can program the third yourself using the procedure in the Owner's Guide (look in the Tech Section to get one if you don't have an Owner's Guide).

BTW, the car's computer can only store eight keys total, so if you are bad about losing them (or the previous owner was), you'll eventually need to go to the dealer to have the old keys erased...

When you add key's you are only programing the key's at hand and not adding to previous programed key's. You are programing all key's at same time and over writing previous program.

RTFM. Specifically, check out page 150 of the 2004 Lincoln LS Owner's Guide:
A maximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle.
When you code the key, you're not recoding all of the keys, you're only telling the computer to recognize the new key's RFID code.
