If you replace the PCM, your car will not start till a dealer or someone with a good scan tool marries the new PCM to your cluster (PATS) and keys.

Hello 1-800-flatbed?
... or a mobile mechanic!

That is not true for the 1st gens. I have broken a few ignition locks because the owner lost the keys. You just break the lock and unbolt the plastic piece under the steering column and move the lever to start the car.

I know it isn't true for the second gens either. I buy cars from the auction and sometimes they do not have keys. I swap over the ignition key and scil module. Worked about 10 times so far.

Gone in 60 Seconds?

I'm afraid you are wrong, this car needs to see a matched code from the key to the ignition. There's no way you got this car started by simply busting out the ignition lock and flipping some levers.

He may have if it had a cheap aftermarket remote start installed. That, or maybe he is talking about a Mark instead of an LS?

broken ignition lock or not, if the (correct) keys code is not seen, the starter will not crank, even if you cut all of the wires and hot wire it with out any switch...

even if you have the correct (cut) key but just not programmed, you can turn it on and the dash light will turn on, but the starter will not crank.
